I was recently attacked in PvP and lost (no biggie) but when I watched the replay, one of my troops just blinked out of existence right before the battle started. None of his troops had yet moved. Has anyone ever seen this before?

I thought I read on beta it's supposed to have a tentacle animation or something on the unit when that happens but I haven't seen it.

I didn't see any sparkles but it kind of reminded me of the puff of smoke when nightcrawler teleports.

There is a tentacle that appears with the smoke and you have to be attentive enough to see it.
