Is it better to produce materials that take longer but u get more or Materials that give u less but faster for a player who doesn't really ever get off the game

Well (at least the aztec one which is what i'm working on) comes with a chance of increasing the output. So percentage wise the more tries the more likely that you'll get those extra goods. That will be versus how often (and how willing) you are to log in and reset those short term settings. If you go for the 4 hour production but don't come back for 10 hours then you should of gone with the 8 hour. If you'll be back pretty much in 4 hours then the 4 hour one would be better.

Goods: Doesn’t matter if you do 4 or 8 hr. The end result is the same as long as you’re able to pick up the productions on time. So choose based on when you can pick up the productions and what your needs are for research/expansions

Yes there’s a % chance to x4 the output, but it’s a bit of a moot point. If it activates on a shorter timeframe you get half the goods as you would on the longer timeframe so it ends up more or less evening out regardless of if you do 4 hr or 8 hr times

Coins: 4hrs if you’re able to log in within a reasonable timeframe. Two of the 4 hr productions for coins are much better than a single 8 hrs. If you’ll be offline for nearly 8 hrs then just do a 8 hr production

There is also the issue of Plunder. If you are doing a shorter production in the City and fail to show up on time, more likely to get plundered.
When you can go to Event Buildings etc for Goods then that is each 24 hrs and can set up collect on time once each 24 hours.
Another advantage to each 24Hr collect on time is being able to drop nearly all City defense, and use those spaces for better things.

In the settlement, produce goods for when you will be next online. Produce coins in the shortest time possible that you will be next online. The longer the production, the less efficient it is.

The above is correct as far as it goes, and the exceptions probably fall under 'your needs'. But to be a bit more explicit: Your expected number of goods is the same either way for one 8hour of two 4hour productions but the variability is different, and so is the timing.

The variability is a little higher with 8 hour productions so if you need to be lucky to hit a time limit for settlement rewards that might be preferable, and conversely 4 hours might be slightly better if only bad luck will keep you from making a time limit. And, more obviously, you will get the goods sooner on average with 4 hour productions which may allow a change of productions or meeting a deadline.

But those are minor factors compared to convenience.
