It looks like, despite the Republican shutdown/default shenanigans, President Obama may well yet become the second US president to bring the budget back to surplus after a Bush skyrocketed the deficit:
Shame that the chance of the Democrats holding power long enough to pay off all gross debt is quite low, given the natural swing in a two-party system. Although, the Tea Party are admittedly doing their best to make the whole opposition look as warped as themselves...
