Arctic Orangery Question

Question: Does the Arctic Orangery critical hit chance apply when using next age troops?
- if yes -
Do the next age troops have to be fighting their same age or the players?

Inquiring minds would like to know :)

Arctic Orangery only applies when the troop that attacks has the same era as the troop it's attacking.

So if you're in indy and use an AF troop to attack indy, no crit is possible.

If you're in indy and use an AF troop to attack an AF troop on continent, it can crit.

People who rely on higher age units usually don't build AO unless it's setting up for after they leave that situation.

The only criteria for AO to work is "are the troops being fought the same age as the troop attacking.
The Era of the player does not matter.
The AO does not work on Rogues when they are Rogues. As soon as they turn into a regular troop, then AO rules apply
AO cannot function when in PvP*.. nor on Quantum fights. nor in Ancient Egypt settlement.

*I see some confusion in different sources if critical hit applies to defending in PvP. so that only is a bit unclear.

AO works in neighborhood PvP (both sides!) but not in PvP Arena I believe.

Well that's just asinine. Inno gives us EBs that produce next age troops so we don't have to do a bunch of stupid quests in a stupid order and hope we don't screw up to get next age troops or above and yet won't let AO work unless both forces on the battlefield have the same age troops.
Then I have a question. Which is better on the battlefield, next age troops or AO? And I'm talking about GBG and GE specifically.

Usually AO. There are certain eras were next age troops are either situationally or regularly better than being able to crit. The AO limitation was from its creation time, when they were probably trying to give a reason to people to stop using FE troops in AF primarily.

The next era troop is generally better if:
- it has a powerful ability that your current era equivalent does not
- it has a huge jump in stats AND you're not fighting semi-easy fights (unless the extra stats are enough to regularly non-crit 1-shot, it'll be better for a long while to be able to crit 1-shot than do 9 damage instead of 8).

VF is the era that probably benefits most from next-era troops (sentinels have a huge stat jump, keen eye to replace AO without the age restriction, and flying which no VF unit has to avoid mortar).

It's not asinine. it is a choice the player can make.
The decision between future troops or AO is a good example of letting the player choose how to proceed. if there were no such player critical thinking challenges, Foe would be pretty boring. LoL

Current play allows new(er) players to concentrate on higher level troops. and skip AO. At least until you are in the top level. Then suddenly AO again becomes important.
Similar is the fact many are not building, or dropping Alcatraz. That too is a player strategy decision.
