This is a collection thread of commonly reported issues, either through support or here on the forum, along with their solution. Quite a number of them arise due to flash problems, misunderstandings, or in other words cannot be "fixed" coding-wise but there exists a simple answer that resolves them for any player.

If your issue is something that requires internal account assistance (certain amount of resources missing, cannot complete a quest, etc.) it is best to send in a support ticket. Simply right-click anywhere on the game screen and choose 'Contact Support.' Since all support information is confidential, we would not be able to assist you with such matters here on the forum.

Black Screen | Frequent game crashes

If you come across a black screen during gameplay, this is an indication that your Flash Player is about to crash. Since the game is based on Flash, the crashes themselves cannot be fully prevented, but they certainly do not have to be frequent and annoying. One can minimize them to a point where they barely take place, using a few steps.

1. Ensure that you have the latest version of Flash on your device through the Adobe Flash page;

2A. Try playing the game through different browsers to see on which one FoE runs best on your device (the game is optimized for Google Chrome and Firefox, even though that may not imply that those will be best for you);

2B. If you're using Google Chrome, you should be aware that Chrome has its own integrated Flash player. This means if you have Adobe Flash installed, you're likely running two different versions that can conflict each other and cause problems. To remove one of them, follow these instructions:
- Type "about://plugins" (no quotes) into the address bar;
- Scroll down to adobe flash (it is usually near the top, expand if needed);
- Disable the one not called "PepperFlash" (PepperFlash is the integrated one that is automatically updated along with the browser), or otherwise the older of the two versions;
- This leaves only the more recent version of flash enabled and running.

3. Clear your browser's cache at least after every game update <click here for instructions>; OR <click here if you're using IE>;

4. In the game settings window make sure you have "Animations of Other Player's Cities" set to inactive. Additionally, it is preferable that when playing the game it is the only thing you have running, as quite a number of other pages have Flash content of their own.

Login Issue | Username and password not recognized

Forge of Empires has many servers for all the different markets that the game supports. On the main game page you can switch between the various markets using the flag at the top left. Simply choose the market you wish to play on, or the market you initially registered on.

Based on where you login from you may end up on a different market. Certain adverts lead to a specific market, while if you load http://www.forgeofempires.com/ you'll be taken to the market most suitable to your location. The three most easily confused are the BETA servers, the US servers, and the EN servers, as the used language for all of them is English.

BETA:
http://zz.forgeofempires.com/

United States (US):
http://us.forgeofempires.com/

International (EN):
http://en.forgeofempires.com/

Notice how the beginning of the url for all three is different. If you receive this login error, you can look for that bit of the url to check whether you're on the wrong market or not. If this does not resolve your login issue, contact support and provide them with any relevant information (is there an error message, what site you're trying to login from, etc.) that can help them locate the problem.

Premium Invitation | Have not received reward

There are two simple rules both parties have to comply with in order to set up a valid link between them. If these are met the inviter receives their rewards as the invited reaches certain milestones. Those rules are:

- The player inviting the other player must use the invite link/invite email; The invited player must follow the instructions from that link/email (in translations this means they must register on the same world that they were invited on);
- Both parties must not share an internet connection.

If both rules are not met, then the appropriate link between the two accounts is not set and no reward can be received. Unfortunately the rewards apply to outside players, not ones from the same household. This is done to minimize the damage that multiple accounts can do. If you believe you meet the requirements but have not received any of the rewards, contact support.

Motivation/Polishing | Motivation & polishing not registering

The servers do in fact recognize and apply all motivate and polish actions done in your city by other players. The issue is, the 'changes' to the amount of resources (coin and supplies) is only applied to the total amount. Basically when you collect, you receive the correct amount. But you will not see the changes reflecting prior to that if you have not refreshed your game page.

Example: If one of your houses was motivated but you have not refreshed, you will not see the extra coin if you hover over the building prior to collecting, but the correct amount will be credited to your total once you collect from that house.

So if you do not have to worry about losing coin or supplies, they're all credited properly in the total amount. But if you want to see the changes prior to collecting, you can simply refresh the game page. You can even confirm this yourself:

- When you have a building motivated, do not refresh your game page prior to collecting from it;
- Make a note of your total coin/supplies (depending on the building) found in the top right corner;
- Make a note of how many coin/supplies the building says it's going to give you;
- Collect from the building;
- Check to see whether your new total matches the ones from your notes (which should be "old total" + "building collection") and you'll notice the difference because you received more than what the building showed it would give.

Blue Prints | Motivating/Polishing/Plundering not giving blue prints

There's a fairly wide-spread misinformation that you receive a blue print for every X actions you do. Where by actions we mean either motivating, polishing, or plundering buildings in other players' cities. This is a false assumption because there is no such counter in the blue print system.

The chance to receive a blue print is random and individual --- it does not increase with each action, it remains the same for each action. But obviously with more actions you have more instances of that same individual chance. This means that you can receive 0 blue prints for doing 200 actions, or you can receive 4 blue prints for doing 20 actions. Both of these cases may be statistically unlikely to happen, but they're possible.

Therefore if you have not received a blue print in a while, it simply means that odds have not been in your favor lately.

Lost Expansion

There are three types of expansions in the game:
- Reward expansions, obtained through tech tree or continent map progress, both of which require coin to be unlocked and placed in your city;
- Victory expansions, obtained with medals;
- Premium expansions, obtained with diamonds.

You can have multiple expansions available from all 3 types at the same time. However, if you use one type it appears as if you lose the other types. For example if you use a "reward expansion" type you cannot access a "victory expansion" type in that same game session and vice versa. You DO NOT lose the expansions, and if you refresh the game page you will find the other types available again. The issue is that when you access one type, you lose access to the other types during that game session.

If this is not your case, you should send in a support ticket so that the moderating team can review your situation.

Damsel in Distress | Cragshire

The wording of the quest is highly important. You're asked to scout the province south of Cragshire, and to infiltrate 2 sectors of that province. So if you read the requirements carefully you'll notice the quest itself has nothing to do with Cragshire itself. South of there is Ravens Creek and this is the province you're looking for. You need to scout and infiltrate 2 sectors of Ravens Creek.

Additionally, acquiring a sector does not equal infiltration. "To infiltrate" means to use the option of paying coin to lower the health of the sector's defending army. You can locate this feature under the defending army when you have a sector opened.

The "infiltrate N sectors of X province" requirement is also met when you acquire that whole X province. If you own all sectors there it doesn't matter whether you infiltrated them or not.

You're asked to scout the province east of Cuttingham, and to infiltrate 5 sectors of that province. Therefore 'Cuttingham' is only a reference point, it is not part of the requirement. East of Cuttingham is Spearth and that is the province you need to scout and infiltrate 5 sectors of.

The Siege | Zaldon-on-Sea

The quest asks you to scout the province east of Zaldon-on-Sea and to infiltrate 5 sectors of that province. Once again Zaldon-on-Sea is not actually part of the requirement. The province east of there is Northcastle. Thus you need to scout and infiltrate 5 sectors of Northcastle.

Trail to Dunkelwald | Dunkelwald

There are two versions of this quest, you receive the one you meet the criteria for. Based on which version you receive, you may see different requirements. The commonly reported version has the following requirements:
- Infiltrate 3 sectors
- Finish a 4-hour production 2 times

In this case, Dunkelwald has nothing to do with the requirements, it is simply part of the quest's text description. Your first requirement is to infiltrate ANY 3 sectors on the Continent Map, they do not have to be within Dunkelwald. "To infiltrate" means to use the option of paying coin to lower the health of the sector's defending army. You can locate this feature under the defending army when you have a sector opened.

The second requirement is to finish two 4-hour productions. These must come from a supply building. If you do the productions in goods buildings then you're not meeting the quest requirement.

Rinbin Quest not in English | Rinbin talking gibberish

There is a certain Rinbin quest that is in Polish. This is not a failure to translate that quest, rather it is meant to be Rinbin pulling off a prank on you. The quest requirements themselves should still be obvious due to the progress bars and the words that accompany them. If you need further help, see the spoiler below.

Notice one of the progress bars asks for "Polishski" and the other for "Motivatoromo" --- you guessed it right, the requirements are to polish and motivate a certain number of buildings.

Provide Diversions | Barrels of Tobacco

This quest requires that you have 4 Kites (decorations) and that you produce 1 Barrels of Tobacco. The usual misunderstanding comes within the Tobacco Plantation. "1 Barrels of Tobacco" is the 24 hour production. While there exists a "1 Barrel of Tobacco" production (notice the missing 's', making it 'barrel' and not 'barrels'), which is the 8 hour one.

Thus you need the 24 hour production and NOT the 8 hour production in the Tobacco Plantation.

Research Agriculture

While the quest requirement is short and simple, the "Agriculture" research is commonly mistaken with the "Architecture" research. They're both in the Iron Age section of the tech tree. But while "Architecture" is at the start, "Agriculture" is in the middle of that age. So the wrong one is unlocked more easily and sooner, but the one you need is further down the research path.

In short, note the difference between Agriculture and Architecture.

Hi,

Just wanted to know if there is a known bug between the iPhone version of the game and the desktop?

It appears that the two are not exactly sync'd

This morning my time (about 2 hours ago), the iPhone version indicated that my goods production was complete so I reset for another round. When I checked inventory I did not have any finished inventory so basically I ended up with some wasted time.

Not a big deal in the big picture but very annoying to say the least.
