I got an SoK out of the Shrine Collector's chest today, nice given that it's only a 5% chance. I carelessly started the DC after collecting from my goods producing GBs and ended up with a requirement to collect 260 goods. Luckily, I was able to fill some easy trades in my guild.

I have stopped even opening them now. When I keep seeing *complete 20, 30 + 1hr productions* along with 4 other tasks it is no longer a Daily Challenge ... its a bloody job.

So funny, I opened it at the beginning of the week and it was really easy so I did it, since then they've all been easy this week. So much so that I was looking for an announcement about it in the change log. My winnings have still been crap but hey, maybe I'll get another Hideout from the big chest this week :) *knocking on fake Ikea wood*

I really like DCs. Mostly I just like having something new in the morning, as I’m otherwise just hanging out in my current age leveling the ol’ GBs. A bit boring apart from GEs and events. What I really wish is that they would never have both chests contain military stuff, none of which I can use. I have won stuff I never thought to covet, like Maypoles and their upgrades, only to find that they are pretty nifty. I got an Emperor’s Gate that I might place in the next age if I ever win more Cherry Festival items. Most of this was from doing stuff I already do. I wish I could give Hootengoben my Rouge Hideouts, though. It’s all I ever seem to win from the big chest and I can’t use ‘em.

The secret is not to get too caught up in the run for the big chest and just sit out offers and quests that don’t appeal. Assume you’ll win the 50% prize (FPs or some lame boost) and ask yourself if it’s worth it just for that. The big chest is something you’ll get every once in a while if you’re lucky.

I guess it depends on how you have your city set up. Most of the DCs I've gotten were things that are part of my normal daily routine. And though winning the Challenger's Chest is good, it has nothing you can't get anywhere else. It's okay to not worry about it and concentrate on a good daily prize instead.

    why are you a pacifist?

Anyways i've always really like the DCs ... and even more so recently cause after the Forge Bowl event i got to a spot in the C-map where i have no more provinces to conquer (i have the option to scout 4) but im gonna wait until a quest requires it.

Getting the C-map to a spot where it no longer asks you to take sectors is awesome and it makes the DCs a breeze for a hma camper like myself ... i think ive done 16 DCs in a row now !

150 FPs won today- 100 for completing the DC. 50 for the Challenger's Chest. I only wish it had happened in a different city. I only have 3 GBs in that city- Zeus, LoA, ToB. So that part was disappointing, but, hey, 150 FPs is 150 FPs...

Because the fighting part is boring.

To each their own i guess ... i think the fighting is one of the best aspects of the game :)

Fighting with Rogues is pretty boring, yeah. But without rogues and in later ages I find fighting to be probably the only part of the game that *isn't* mundane and repetitive, besides having new technology to research. But hey, you're not someone who's in here complaining about battle requirements in quests so I say to each their own!

I can see getting to the point where I lose interest while people who like the toy soldier mini games can go on finding FoE entertaining. I’ll probably just find a new game then, tbh.

DCs are the only thing that’s gotten me to fight, and I suppose it gives me a use for all the units piling up in my inventory, but part of me does kind of miss the opportunity to see how far I could go with only 24 battles under my belt.

I made it about 28 months under 50 battles. Then I started battling some of the GE. I still try to avoid PvP in my main, but I have used plundering to my advantage in one of my smaller cities.

Fighting's never required for game progression, so the answer to that is 'the end of the map and research'.

I have a similar view of negotiation as you do for fighting - it's boring because it's essentially non-action besides clicking the button that takes your goods away (similar to auto-battling). Manually fighting is by definition more interesting because it introduces much more interactivity than either of the two above scenarios; GE negotiation is similarly more interesting because you have to think, but it unfortunately trades a lot of the finesse associated with battling for a degree of luck in later rounds.

The one thing I'd be confused by and disagree with is if you're trying to say negotiation isn't as boring as manually fighting is. I just wouldn't be able to understand how clicking one button that's the same every time would be more interesting/engaging than a minigame that never plays out the same way twice.

You're absolutely right about that. I wasn't thinking of negotiating for map sectors because I've been camping in Colonial for so long I do it maybe once a month! I meant the negotiation game in GE, which is kind of like blackjack or some other casino game. I think the interactivity of the battle minigame is a bit like cooking: Some people take to it and enjoy developing their skills and confronting new challenges, and other people dislike it and therefore never put the time in to get good at it. Cooking is definitely more interactive that ordering takeout!

The parts of the game I enjoy are the planning and evaluating and the dealmaking with other players when you're trying to get building above your age. I like working with my guilds and accumulating lots of riches. I also just really like winning prizes, because it never happens to me in real life, so I find GE and events lots of fun.

    I agree.

That's why I quit doing DCs in my secondary worlds. in my main, it is a toss-up on what If I pursue it. Depends on what my schedule is and the severity of the 'X-blacksmiths needed' task. Sometimes a particular chest will motivate me, but it's an uphill battle if I'm thrown a 44 15-minute productions.

It's an interesting balancing challenge for Inno. Granted, the RNG chests & tasks makes it a bit easier for them. I wonder if there is a design document/memo that has the "X of Y-productions" task highlighted with footnote saying "Keep. This task is the ultimate deterrent for power creep in most users".

"DC/s" would be really great IF, I did not have to rely on other players to do something, like clear their Taverns. I missed a very nice reward because for some reason no one was clearing their Taverns on that day I have to visit 45 Taverns. I echo the comments above about "complete" 38 1 hour productions, and other similar tasks as being a bit too time consuming, or expensive for those who buy diamonds.

Nice idea, DC/s, but make the tasks so that you can complete them in a few hours.

The mundane is built in by Inno. I think that if they facilitated progression then interest would remain high. Such as the exponential price for successive expansion slots, that's a real interest killer.

Yeah! Then we can call them just the "Daily". I mean, who needs a Challenge anyway?

DC is great. A few weeks ago I pulled in 400FP in a week.
