FoE Math - Subtly Precise

Consider the following BA challenge: “pick the best production building”

Fruit Farm 130 production in 1 hour
Pottery 50 production in 1 hour
Blacksmith 32 production in 1 hour

The numbers do not lie, the obvious answer is Fruit Farm - IF you do not consider the Real Estate:

Fruit Farm size 4x5 = 20 squares
Pottery size 4x3 = 12 squares
Blacksmith size 2x2 = 4 squares

How do you compare these? Use the Equivalent Real Estate Production formula:

{Largest Size} / {Selected item size} X {Selected item production in 1 hour}

Fruit Farm (20) / (20) X 130 = 130
Pottery (20) / (12) X 50 = 83.3
Blacksmith (20) / (4) X 32 = 160

The obvious answer is Blacksmith IF you do not consider population.

Fruit Farm 50 people
Pottery 41 people
Blacksmith 12 people

Use the Equivalent Population Production formula:

{Largest Size} / {Selected item size} X {Selected item population}

Fruit Farm (20) / (20) X 50 = 50 people
Pottery (20) / (12) X 41 = 68 people
Blacksmith (20) / (4) X 12 = 60 people

The obvious answer is not very obvious. And the answer gets even more complex when you consider:
  • the spaces for the roads to connect the Blacksmith to Town Hall which are also used to connect other buildings (so it not 1:1)
  • the spaces for residences for the population
  • the spaces for buildings to keep the population enthusiastic
The best answer is “It Depends on your plan, perceptions and priorities”.

There are rarely simple answers in FoE. My advice is to do the numbers and then remember what @Algonas said:

there are several more factors. for example, the bigger the building, and longer production you set it for, the more effect motivations and boosts have.

For me, though, the answer is simple: Blacksmiths.
with blacksmiths you can do more quests. more quests= more coins, supplies, goods, medals and forge points.

You forgot some of the most important methods of selecting the best production building either in or from BA:

"if you are in Oceanic Future and wish to spam recurring quests". In that case the answer is obvious (and it's not Fruit Farm).

"If you want to do lots of recurring quests (not UBQ) in BA". (again, not Fruit Farm)

"If you want to fulfill gain X population event quests quickly and as cheaply as possible". Again obvious (and it's not Fruit Farm, but neither is it Blacksmiths).

... and finally "Why am I still in Bronze Age again?" ;)

There are plenty more ...

Since every building in my city will add up to the total game points in FoE, I managed to reach as many doubles for my Mount Killmore city as possible -
Forge of Empires - City Points as Double as Possible.jpg
The rank itself is a double too.

"Why am I still in Bronze Age again?" ;)

I am in BA again because I wanted to do more than just read Glargs Guide. I wanted to start a new city in a new world so I could DO it and LEARN from it.

And I wanted to plant a lightning rod that would attract precious and invaluable responses like yours. Pile on the insights - I am taking notes and getting smarter.
