Off with their heads!
The guillotine was used by the Irish 500 years before the French adopted it.
The proof can be found in an old print of a gentleman named Murcod Ballagh using a guillotine near Merton, County Galway on April 1, 1307.

Answer:
Most have no idea of the the true reason St Patricks Day is even celebrated, here it is:
He was born in Britain, around 385AD. At the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken as a slave to Gaelic Ireland. He spent six years there working as a shepherd and that during this time he found God, and escaped. Thirty years later Saint Patrick returned to Ireland and drove the Pagans (specifically, the Celts) out of Ireland.
The story holds that he converted the pagan warrior chiefs and princes, baptizing them and thousands of their subjects in the “Holy Wells” that still bear this name. There are several accounts of Saint Patrick’s death. One says that Patrick died at Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland, on March 17, 460 A.D thus the day we celebrate him.

A limerick packs laughs anatomical
In space that is quite economical.
But the good ones I've seen
So seldom are clean;
And the clean ones so seldom are comical.

There was a young laddie from Cork
who was either a nerd or a dork.
He wanted to play,
in the worst possible way,
so he did.

Dublin is the most heavily touristed region[SUP] [/SUP]and home to several of the most popular attractions such as the Guiness Storehouse and Book of Kells. The west and south west, which includes the Lakes of Killarney and the Dingle peninsula in County Kerry and Connemara and the Aran Islands in County Galway, are also popular tourist destinations

There once was a singer for Eire
Who'd do things that no-one would dare
Placing his feet on his nose
he sang through his toes
and parted the audience's hair

The Olde Man From Korch

There was an old man from Korch,
He often sat by the light of a torch.
He had no class,
Would often pass gas.
Twas no secret,
Everyone knew.
At church he was forced,
To sit in his own Pew.

As Irish eyes are smilin',
All through the land of Korch,
He could see from the light of his torch,
All were wearing the green.
Lasses were clogging.
Laddies went jogging.
Every smile was so big,
He wanted to do a jig.
They all shouted "get started"
But instead, he only farted.

There once was a great land called Ire
With it's luscious green landscape a place to admire
Alas, the tranquility would not last
As the Celtic hordes left the inhabitants aghast
With clanking glasses, the Celtic leader made a drunken toast
Glaring down at the frightened masses, it was a prideful boast
"We have brought a great gift to the people of Ire,
The Celts will give you our flaming red hair of fire."

Fact: The seasons in Ireland follow an ancient Celtic tradition, which is based solely on daylight and the strength of the noon sun. As such, the seasons of the year are observed in Ireland as follows:
  • Winter ("Geimhreadh") - November, December, January (Samhain, Nollaig, Eanáir)
  • Spring ("Earrach") - February, March, April (Feabhra, Márta, Aibreán)
  • Summer ("Samhradh") - May, June, July (Bealtaine, Meitheamh, Iúil)
  • Autumn ("Fómhar" Harvest) - August, September, October (Lúnasa, Meán Fómhair, Deireadh Fómhair)

And this is what children are taught in Primary school, as I’ve learned from my daughter in 2nd class.

There once was a man Named O'shea
Who would go to the pub and N'er pay,
He was quite the rogue,
With his heavy lilting Brogue.
After a night full of green beer,
O'Shea's pockets were clear,
He wanted one more,
The Beerkeep said what a bore,
and sent him longingly on his way!

Visiting Ireland may be a dream,
But Ballygally Castle will give you a scream,
The ghosts like to play,
Scare the tourists away,
But your trip will still be supreme!

Gets called upon to be witty.
I'll give it a shot,
But more often than not,
The result just isn't that pretty.

Answer: Fact about Ireland: People live there! I wish I did as well.

In all seriousness, my maternal grandparents were from Ireland--unfortunately, the relationship between them and my mother was poor, so, I never knew them all that well. My family often buys little Irish-related trinkets for me as a running joke, because they all know I wish I was more than 25% Irish.

Of course, it's not the most original or creative or interesting fact about Ireland, but, hey, it's St. Patrick's day! I may as well enter for the random chance. Maybe I have a little residual luck from my mother and grandparents. Though, probably not—‘lucky’ is not a term I'd really ever use to describe myself :)
