We are the LOD Gnomes. We believe that clean, elegant city design is more art than science.

We are proud to be the Greifental representative of the LOD family of guilds. You will find that many of our members have LOD mains in other worlds. This provides us with a lot of depth, and it also provides contacts who can support your own alts in those other worlds.

RULES AND EXPECTATIONS - We have three basic rules:

1) You must do at least one Motivate/Polish rotation every 5 days.

More precisely, any guild member must be able to verify your most recent visit to their city simply by looking in their Event History, which rolls over after 5 days.

2) All trades must be fair/equitable, with Like Value traded for Like Value.

More precisely. Until you get to the Colonial Age, the only permitted trading ratios are
• 2 gets you 1 if you're trading UP
• 1 gets you 1 if you are trading within an age
• 1 gets you 2 if you are trading DOWN
• We do permit upside down charity trades that are flagged for Guild Only, which offer Expensive Goods 2 gets you Cheap Goods 1 regardless of age jumps. Charity trades are most commonly used to help somebody get a Great Building into sticks, but occasionally to get someone past a bottleneck on their tech tree or provinces map.

Once you get to the Colonial Age the trading ratios get more complicated, as the prices only go up by 800 coins per age, rather than doubling. The consequent trading ratios are 2:1, 3:2, 4:3, 5:4, 6:5. For a convenient, on-line Trade Ratio calculator see http://foetrader.blogspot.com/p/fair-trade-tool.html. You can also download any of the several spreadsheets that are available at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/lod_gnomes.

3) LOD Gnomes members may attack anyone, but may not plunder members of LOD sibling guilds nor certain allies.

We expect you to be very involved in the hustle and bustle of guild life. To achieve that goal, we make every effort to ensure that guild life is interesting and worth your while. If you’re just trying to avoid the transaction fees associated with neighborhood trades, if you can only play a few hours per week, or if you only check your messages once in a blue moon, then we’re not the guild that you’re looking for.

We’re quite active in the Iron Age Guild Wars.
• LOD Gnomes is our fixed base operation
• LOD Landing Zone is our mobile strike force

We have a Great Building Club, wherein we swap Forge Points for mutual advantage. We include folks who can still use ALL of the blueprints.

We are triple digit traders, who will help you avoid the bottlenecks that would otherwise inhibit your ability to
• Research your tech tree
• Negotiate for your provinces
• Get your Great Buildings into sticks

We use a daily Unrequited Trades report to inform our members regarding our overall inventory balance, including what's needed for our Guild Treasury.

We would suggest the following elements of good city design.
• Include S=Supplies, C=Coins, P=Polish as part of your city name.
• If you want your visitors to click on something, place it on your initial load screen.
• Shove your Town Hall into the top corner, with large buildings on the two exposed edges.
• Place Cultural Buildings and Decorations along the right edge of your city.
• Don't fake out your visitors by parking decorations behind Cultural Buildings.
• Place your Great Buildings on the left edge of your city. and allow them to be obscured behind the Action menu popup.
• Use a herringbone roadway layout, for efficiency and ease of modification, with 4-7 squares between the ribs.
• Help your visitors by segregating your Supply Buildings and your Housing.
• Design your base city for enthusiastic.
• Use a very few LARGE supply buildings, and reap the rewards provided by enthusiastic, motivated workers.

We're focusing our Guild vs Guild efforts on the Iron Age map. We expect EACH of our guild members to have at least:
* 2 Iron Age manufacturing buildings, with at least one for each of their resources
* 1 Archery Range
* 1 Ballista Camp
* 1 Soldier or Legionnaire Barracks
so that everybody can pile on during the final rush when we're taking over, or defending, a sector.

You should also consider joining LOD Landing Zone, which is our sibling guild. They have a dual mission.

• LOD Landing Zone is our entry level guild. If you are still Bronze Age or Iron Age, or even Early Middle Age if you like PvP, then it’s your best choice.
• LOD Landing Zone members are lightly managed while they find their wings. We always rotate a few fledgling administrators in from LOD Gnomes, so that they can gain managerial experience.

• LOD Landing Zone is also our mobile strike force. Their mission is to stress our opponents by opening a second front and creating confusion. They do not hold sectors for any longer than is required for the current mission, so they are free to leapfrog into the interior where they can roll up vulnerable sectors owned by guilds that are attacking, or being attacked by, LOD Gnomes.
• We always rotate a few heavy hitters in from LOD Gnomes, for horsepower and guidance.
• LOD Landing Zone members are encouraged to participate in our GvG missions. There is, after all, only one target, and going all out doesn't require much finesse.
• When an LOD Landing Zone member gets a new pair of manufacturing buildings, we expect them to shift over t LOD Gomes, and focus on the development of their city for a while.
* Conversely, when an LOD Gnomes member gets a new triple of military buildings, we expect then to shift over to LOD Landing Zone, and focus on running up their PvP score, and getting some medal, so that they can spend medals for 15 expansions, rather than paying several million coins for expansions 36 through 51.

The LOD Landing Zone headquarters might be anywhere on the map at the moment, because they're our mobile strike force, but you can readily find their headquarters, and/or view their profile, by entering LOD in the search box for the Iron Age Map Ranking list, and clicking on the Tool Tip.

If you like our concept, do please indicate your preferences and credentials in a note to either Katwijk, msford, Missanthropy, or SammyTheDoctor. If it appears that you would get on well with our current guild members, we would be delighted to offer you an invitation.
