Introduction to the Higher Age Units Guide

Welcome to the Higher Age Units Guide! One of the common questions that appears on this forum is that of how to fight better. My solution? Getting higher aged units. These units can give the player a huge advantage in PvP (both offense and defense), GE, and GBG, among other aspects of the game.

Note that these strategies can often be costly, especially if the player is planning on negotiating the Continent Map rather than fighting. Also, due to the long time it can take to scout sectors, be prepared to go slowly on the tech tree when trying to get higher era units. This strategy is generally more useful for campers rather than tech tree racers for this reason. Some story quests require technologies to be researched. If you don’t save enough techs, you could get blocked.

These higher-aged units can be obtained in generally one of two ways: Bonus and Story Quests. In the chart below, you can see which aged units you can receive based on the age of your city.

*CE units can only be gotten in PME.

Something you should know before trying to receive these units is the requirements for getting them. Many of the story questlines require technologies to be researched to continue with no alternative. As such it makes sense to plan ahead to make sure you can get the units before you start preparing to go for them. In the chart below, you can see which techs are needed for which age's storyline.

² Must be a military technology.
³ An additional tech needs to be researched if the player has not yet researched Military Tactics.
Suggested route that avoids triggering the InA Bonus questline. You need 2 military, 1 residential, and 1 production technologies.
Depends on the PE troops you want. See Part 3 for more details on this. In terms of InA tech requirements, 1-2 of these can be completed while in CA.
The story is almost entirely skipped.
The TE story is optional. See Part 4 for more details.
Only 2 techs are needed before receiving Hover Tanks.
Using Combination Strategy for less techs. See Part 5 for more details.

Some abbreviations/terms will be used in this guide, which can be found in a list below. I will also respond to questions using the same abbreviations and terms to avoid possible confusion.

Tech - Technology
Story Quests - (Usually) Un-abortable quests that follow progression through the ages on the cMap
Trigger - Start a questline or to cause some variation in how the Story or Bonus quests are given to the player
Bonus Quests - Un-abortable quests that are similar to Story Quests, only that they are triggered at certain points and are much shorter
Side Quests - Abortable quests that do not repeat that are based on the age of the player and their progression on the cMap
Recurring Quests or RQ - After all Side Quests are completed or aborted, recurring quests take their place. They loop in a never-ending cycle. Note that you are currently limited to 2000 aborted RQs per day.
Tech Blocker - A story quest that requires you to research a technology or move up an age to be able to complete it in some fashion

I also recommend reading through the entire guide section on the units you want to receive before pursuing those units. It can be easy to make a mistake, and knowing the steps beforehand can help reduce that chance.

As one last note before the guide, be careful with these units. You can only get them once. If they die in battle and you forget to revive them with diamonds, there is no getting them back. Take every precaution not to lose them, as they can be a huge advantage. Use them wisely.

With all the introduction out of the way, this guide will be broken down into several parts, based on each age of units that the player can receive. The contents can be found below:

Part 3: Progressive Era to Postmodern Era Troops

Part 1: Early Middle Age and Colonial Age Troops

These two ages of troops are grouped together because the path to acquiring them is rather straightforward and simple.

Early Middle Age Troops
The highest era troops a player can receive in BA and IA are two Armored Infantry (heavy units). These are obtained via the EMA Bonus Questline. This questline can be triggered in any age, but most players reach it in IA. It is triggered by completing the story quest "Maktaba" and taking the province Dunkelwald.

The EMA Bonus Sectors follow the mountains near the IA and BA provinces on the cMap, and the questline guides the player through these sectors. Fighting these sectors can be tricky, as the player is up against barbarians. These troops boost their allies after they die, so do not auto battle unless you have a high attack boost. Instead, manually fight and take each barbarian down to a few health points. Then, you can eliminate them one by one. This saves you having to deal with ever-stronger enemies. Of course, you can always negotiate! There's no difference in rewards depending on whether you fight or negotiate. The EMA Bonus Provinces can be seen highlighted in the image below.
dypyfkS.png

To get the EMA troops, the questline requires the player to research 1-2 technologies, so reserve some for this questline. Two technologies are needed if the player has not yet unlocked Military Tactics and therefore can not do PvP fights (one quest requires plundering buildings or researching a technology). Note that this questline will not take over an RQ slot, so it can be completed at the player's leisure.

If you are in the Bronze Age, for the IA questline you will have to research a military tech. You will also get 2 Legionnaires (heavy units) from the IA questline.

While you can only get them while in EMA, you can receive the Barbarian units which appear on the EMA Bonus map. All you need is an event building or special building that gives units, such as the Governor's Villa or the Feudal Japan Settlement's Timeless Dojo. Over time, you will randomly get some of these units as a collection. They are pretty weak, however, so they are not really useful. However, it is fun just to be able to have them.

Colonial Age Troops
Unfortunately, there are no higher era troops available to players in EMA or HMA. However, for players in LMA, there are CA units available: five Grenadiers (heavy units), two Musketeers (ranged units) and two Field Guns (artillery units) available.

To get the 2 Musketeers, all you have to do is complete either the story quest "Buy Her Freedom" or "Fight for Freedom," which are towards the end of the LMA story, after scouting Ravens Creek. You will get one or the other and they don't really differ in requirements. You get both musketeers from either.

The rest of the troops are obtainable through the LMA Bonus Questline. This questline only triggers when the player’s city is LMA or higher and has completed the quest "The Fair Maiden". This questline will “take over” a recurring quest slot until it is completed. Additionally, it does not matter whether you fight or negotiate for this questline. You get the same troops/rewards either way. If you scout ahead on the cMap, take note not to take Grand Gap, otherwise the questline will not be triggered. You can see the LMA Bonus provinces highlighted in the image below.
nSILqm3.png

There are no technology requirements for this questline, other than placing buildings that are from LMA.

Be aware, though, that the bonus questline gives diamonds as one of its final rewards. By aborting the quest “Dungeon or Death Sentence,” the player receives ten more diamonds as a reward, making a total of fifty. If this quest is fulfilled, the player receives only forty diamonds.

Part 2: Industrial Age Troops

This section covers the player’s ability to get InA troops in CA. Starting with the InA cMap, getting troops begins to get trickier. Actions by the player on the cMap can greatly affect rewards and troops. Additionally, the InA Bonus Questline can be triggered in CA, but can only be completed in InA. This means that accidentally triggering the InA Bonus Questline will permanently take over a RQ slot until it is completed.

In order to avoid loss of an RQ slot, negotiate southern provinces and attack the northern ones. To gain more diamonds later on, be sure to negotiate any sector with natives defending it. Whenever possible, avoid taking sectors of Las Penas. Do only what is necessary – don't work ahead, and be slow in researching technology. By following this technique, the player should receive 6 Rifleman (ranged unit), 2 Jaeger Infantry (light units), 4 Lancers (fast units), 1 Howitzer (heavy unit), 3 Breech Loaders (artillery units), and 8 Bronze Age Horsemen (fast units).

The map of the InA story can be seen below, with the southern provinces that you should negotiate in green and the northern ones which you should fight in red, should you want to avoid the Bonus Questline. However, even though it is marked green, avoid taking Las Penas if possible. If you take Las Penas the Bonus Questline will be triggered.
KQ4X882.png

Since the InA questline can be confusing, I've made the flowchart-ish thing below that shows all the possible routes for the InA questline, with the rewards and decisions shown to help you plan. Note that you can only avoid triggering the InA Bonus Questline (which you can only complete in InA) by either negotiating all provinces or by fighting the northern and negotiating the southern provinces. If triggering the Bonus Questline is not a problem for you, then you will be able to plan out your own route.

You might notice that the charts above only show how to get 3 of the 6 available Rifleman (ranged units). To get the remaining Riflemen, you must negotiate sectors of Okahe, then abort a RQ. Doing so gives you the side quest "Guns for the Natives." Completing that then gives you the quest "The Natives' Support" which yields the 3 additional Riflemen.

In the Colonial Age, you can receive some PE troops as well. However, this is covered in the next section, Part 3 which is below.

While you can only get them while in InA, you can receive the Braves units which appear on the InA map. All you need is an event building or special building that gives units, such as the Governor's Villa or the Feudal Japan Settlement's Timeless Dojo. Over time, you will randomly get some of these units as a collection. They are pretty weak, however, so they are not really useful. However, it is fun just to be able to have them as a collector's item.

Part 3: Progressive to Postmodern Era Troops

This section covers the ability of the player to get up to Progressive Era troops in CA and InA, and Modern and Postmodern Era troops in InA. It is possible to get much higher troops in Industrial Age, but that will be covered in later sections.

Progressive Era Troops (CA+)
There are a maximum of two PE troops the player can get from the PE story while still in CA, but there are four possible types of troops the player can get - 2 Conscripts (light units), 2 Tanks (heavy units), 2 Snipers (ranged units), or 1 Rapid Fire Cannon (artillery unit). Each "track" has a slightly different strategy to get them, but (and this is important), the player can not get all of these troops.

Unfortunately, the player can only get one of the above choices while in CA. For example, going for the Rapid Fire Cannon blocks the player from getting any of the other units while in CA. However, aging up to InA afterwards gives the player the ability to also get the Tanks or Snipers. So the player has to make a choice from one of the options in the table below.
Troops Gained: CATroops Gained: InA
2 ConscriptsRest of PE*
2 SnipersRest of PE*
2 TanksRest of PE*
1 Rapid Fire Cannon2 Snipers + Rest of PE*
1 Rapid Fire Cannon2 Tanks + Rest of PE*
*The rest of the PE units that can be gained are 1 Armored Car (fast unit) and 3 Conscripts (light units), but these do not depend on this decision. See Part 3 for more on the rest of the PE troops.

And so which is the best choice for you? That depends. If you like artillery, go for the Rapid Fire Cannon, but beware that you get blocked until moving to InA. If you like the other options, you only get those troops plus the rest of the PE troops and miss out on the Rapid Fire Cannon.

So to get these troops, the "paths" will be broken down in the spoilers below, including which provinces to fight/negotiate and what techs you may need.
For all of these, you must take the first province on the map, Havre, and scout the three provinces around it, completing the story quests as you go. However, depending on how you take these provinces, the story (and rewards) will change. It does not matter if you fight or negotiate Havre. In the image below, Omoien and Uxrow are highlighted in yellow, while Kriegreich is highlighted in blue. Havre is highlighted in white.
t6YR7qk.png

Negotiate sectors when prompted to take sectors in the story quests. It does not matter which sectors you negotiate, as long as you do not fight at this stage.

To get the conscripts, you must both research a technology that does not unlock a military building or expansion, AND later on research a technology that unlocks a decoration, so be sure to save two techs that fit those descriptions for this purpose.
Negotiate sectors of either Uxrow or Omoien, and keep negotiating until you reach the quest Blood in the Trenches, where you are asked to take two sectors. Here, fight sectors of Kriegreich to complete this quest. Complete the next few story quests, and you will get the snipers.

To do so requires researching a technology that does not unlock a military building or expansion, AND later on researching a technology that unlocks a decoration, so be sure to save two techs that fit those descriptions for this purpose.
Negotiate sectors of Kriegreich, and keep negotiating until you reach the quest Blood in the Trenches, where you are asked to take two sectors. Here, fight sectors of either Uxrow or Omoein to complete this quest. Complete the next few story quests, and you will get the tanks.

To do so requires researching a technology that does not unlock a military building or expansion, AND later on researching a technology that unlocks a decoration, so be sure to save two techs that fit those descriptions for this purpose.
To get the Rapid Fire Cannon, the player must fight any of the sectors and research a military technology.

However, which province(s) you fight to do this will determine which units (either tanks or snipers) you can get once you age up to InA. If you would prefer to gain 2 Tanks (heavy units) later on, then take Uxrow or Omoien by fighting, or if you would prefer 2 Snipers (ranged units), take Kriegreich by fighting.

The strategy of getting Snipers and Tanks in CA was kindly provided by @Draqone, and their original post(s) on this topic can be found on the EN forums [here].

Following getting one of these four options, the player is blocked until moving up to InA. The rest of this section is dedicated towards players in InA (and above).

Progressive Era Troops (InA Only)
If the player chose to fight to get the Rapid Fire Cannon, in CA or higher, then their choice of which province(s) they attacked will determine which units they receive. If the player chose to get the Rapid Fire Cannon, then they will get either 2 Snipers (ranged units) or 2 Tanks (heavy units) later on in the questline, and will have to research a technology unlocking a decoration to do so.

In total, the troops that can be acquired from the Progressive Era maps are 2 Conscripts (light units, when negotiating early on the map), 2 Snipers (ranged units, only when supporting Joffre), 2 Tanks (heavy units, only when supporting Schledorf), 1 Armored Car (fast unit), and 3 additional Conscripts (light units). As a side note, the player can also get a Publishing House (a PE cultural building) by following a fighting route.

Following the fighting route (no matter who you are supporting), the story requires researching 1 tech that unlocks a military building and 3 other technologies. To avoid researching yet another technology, be sure to negotiate a sector for the quest "Don't Mention the War."

Following the negotiating route, the story requires researching 1 tech that unlocks a cultural building, 1 tech that unlocks a military building, and 3 other technologies.

For the player wishing to get FE Hover Tanks or up to OF troops while in InA, be aware that you will need Police Stations, an InA cultural building, to complete the PE storyline. These can be won from some events, rather than sacrificing the techs you need to get to hovers on researching police stations. With sufficient planning (working through the PE story as far as possible while in CA, winning police stations, and being very careful with research) it is possible to reach hovers with only the technologies left in the InA tech tree. However, I would recommend saving techs early on if possible so that you have a margin of error.

Modern Era Troops
On the Modern Era map, it is important to fight the first two provinces. This triggers the side quest "Rin Gozen's Warriors," which yields 4 Bazooka Teams (light units) after completing the story quest "Rin Gozen's Honor." The early acquisition of these Bazookas is very helpful in fighting the remainder of the map. After completing the western portion of the ME cMap, the player receives 3 more Bazooka Teams (light units).

Additionally, fighting sectors of Toimuro and Hiromaguchi will yield an additional 2 Mechanized Infantry (fast units) and 2 Battle Tanks (heavy units).

In total, by fighting on the ME cMap, the player gains 2 Paratroopers (ranged units), 2 Mechanized Infantry (fast units), 2 Battle Tanks (heavy units), and 7 Bazooka Teams (light units). This era's story will require researching 1 technology.

Postmodern Era Troops
Early on in the PME cMap, the "Predator" side quest can be triggered, which results in the player receiving one Commando (light unit). To reach this quest, the player goes through a short side-quest line (abortable). It starts with "Guerilla Warfare." Following this quest is "Supply Chain" and finally "Predator." While the exact trigger conditions are not known, it seems that completing a PME side quest and having sectors on the PME map scouted can trigger this.

To get 5 MG teams (ranged units) from the story quests early in the PME map, you must:
  • Negotiate with Che for any sector
  • Take only one out of two of Che's provinces (Rung Chien Dau or Cai Chet Nui)
  • Take a complete province next to the provinces above
  • Only negotiate Che's provinces. Don't fight him
Following through the questline will yield the MG teams, via "Business with Che," giving 2 MG teams (ranged units), and "More Business with Che," giving 3 MG teams (ranged units).

In addition, while not confirmed on all the triggers yet, to trigger the quest "Che, Again" which yields 2 Commandos (light units), I took Trung Doi, while having taken only the sectors of Rung Chien Dau required by the questline. I left Day Du Ao alone.

Later in the questline, the player receives 4 Commandos (light units) and 1 PME Champion (heavy unit). As one of the last quests, "Your Choice: Truth or Dare," the player is given a choice between aborting the quest or fulfilling it. By aborting this quest, the player will be able to receive 2 Rocket Artillery. In total this way, the player can gain 5 MG Teams (ranged units), 7 Commandos (light units), 1 PME Champion (heavy unit), and 2 Rocket Artillery (artillery units). The PME story quests require researching 3 technologies. After receiving the Rocket Artillery, the player is tech blocked until they reach PME.

However, it is possible to get higher troops in InA and above by skipping the PME tech blocker quests, which is discussed in Part 4 down below.

Part 4: Contemporary to Future Era Troops

This section covers the ability of the player to get up to Future Era troops in all ages InA and above. It is still possible to get even higher troops in these ages, but that information can be found in the next part.

Skipping the PME Tech Blocker
Despite there being a PME tech blocker at the end of the PME story, it is possible to skip this blocker to get units higher than PME while still in InA (or higher). To do this, there's a couple of short steps to follow.

First, don't complete the PME story. Stop the questline at the abortable quest "Your Choice: Truth or Dare." If at any point past this you collect or abort this quest, your next story quest will take you back to PME and you will be tech blocked. After you get tech blocked, you are stuck on the story until you age up to PME with no way around it.

Next, scout the CE map as shown in the spoiler below. Specific provinces must be skipped, or you will get tech blocked on the CE story.
Skip the provinces that are red.
z70aYfp.png

Then, you have to choose whether you want TE troops or not. Receiving them will cost an extra technology to research, but they can help you fight the map easier. If you are limited on the technologies you have available to you, I would recommend avoiding TE troops and instead using that tech to receive even higher troops, such as AF or OF ones that will be more powerful. Each path is described below.
If you want TE troops, then do the following:
  1. Scout Torrinhos and abort an RQ. Then complete an RQ or side quest that is NOT Truth or Dare.
  2. Then scout and take Villariba to the North (do not scout Bajatai).
  3. Finally, scout Rio Roxo and abort an RQ to start the TE Story on "Meet Miguel Mantos", and follow the story from there.
See the TE troops section further down to learn which troops you can receive.

Thanks to @KingJMobile for helping figure this out.
If you don't want TE troops, then scout the TE map as shown below, skipping the three provinces marked in red.
yIQX9Pi.png

In this case, take up to and including the first FE province, Agadar, and then complete an RQ or side quest that is not "Truth or Dare" and complete what CE story quest(s) you are given. The story should then jump to FE. Make sure that you complete Agadar via negotiation, however, or you'll miss out on 3 extra FE Hover Tanks (heavy units).

When taking provinces from CE until the first province of FE, DO NOT complete any RQ or side quests. That will cause the story quest to jump to CE, and immediately after that either to CE or TE. Only after taking the first FE sector is it safe to complete a RQ or side quest.

CE Troops (PME only)
If you are in PME, you will receive the full CE questline, which includes the CE tech blocker quests. To avoid this, you must scout the cMap as shown below, skipping two of the provinces.
Skip the provinces that are marked in red.
z70aYfp.png

After doing so, if you want TE troops complete the CE story and continue onto the TE map. If you want to skip the TE troops to save an extra tech, scout the TE map as shown below and take the first FE provinces before completing the CE story.
Skip the provinces marked in red.
yIQX9Pi.png

The CE story will ask you to scout one of the skipped provinces, but this is fine. Just don't take it! Make sure to abort through recurring quests as you progress through the story, since there are a good amount of CE side quests that give units that can trigger as you move through the story. You can get 2 Missile Artillery (artillery units), 2 Attack Helicopters, (fast units), 2 Assault Tanks (heavy units), and 3 Anti-Aircraft Vehicles (ranged units). The CE story will need 1 tech to be researched.

After the CE story, if you didn't scout the TE map you will receive the TE story questline. If you instead scouted the TE map as shown above, you will skip to the FE story line.

Also, note that by negotiating all 4 of the Sheik's provinces (Amaryah City, Khail, Batif, and Hafar Al Karak), you will receive more diamonds from the CE storyline.

It is possible to receive the 2 Attack Helicopters (fast units) side quest in ages as early as ME, but the conditions to trigger this quest are unknown.

TE Troops
If you chose to receive the TE troops in an age lower than PME, you should be able to receive 2 Combat Drones (fast units), 2 Stealth Tanks (heavy units), 2 Anti Materiel Snipers (ranged units), and 1 TE Champion (heavy unit). Special thanks goes to @Xivarmy and KingJMobile for figuring this out.

If you chose to skip over the TE questline to go for Hover Tanks first and want to go back to receive TE troops, you can do so. After finishing the FE storyline (or further, as long as you do not reach the quest Persuasion in OF that will tech block you), scout and take the first skipped province in TE, and the questline should jump to TE. Take the remaining TE skipped provinces as well and complete the questline. You should get the units described in the paragraph above.

If you are in PME or CE, you should be able to receive the entire TE questline and all the troops. On the TE cMap, be sure to fight sectors of Torrinhos. This will yield additional troops, namely 2 Anti-Materiel Snipers (ranged units) and 2 Ultra AP (light units). In total, the player can gain 4 Microwave Blaster (artillery units), 4 Anti-Materiel Snipers (ranged units), 2 Ultra AP (light units), 4 Stealth Tank (heavy units), and 2 Combat Drones (fast units), and 1 Champion (heavy units).

No matter what age the player is in, the TE story requires one technology to be researched.

Also, as a side note, a TE cultural building, the Surveillance Nexus, can be given from a side quest after taking Rio Roxo in ages as early as InA!

FE Troops (Hover Tanks)
Once you start the FE story, to get the extra 3 Hover Tanks, be sure to negotiate Agadar, the first province owned by Joy Danba. Then, later on the cMap, be sure to negotiate in Kalabuye (the second province owned by Joy Danba) and to not completely take either Bisoraba or Kalabuye before receiving the 3 Hover Tanks quest "Greetings from a Friend." Once you get the Hover Tanks, it no longer matters whether you fight or negotiate the rest of Kalabuye. Danba's provinces are marked in green on the map below.
Make sure to negotiate these to get extra hover tanks!
OhVDKIU.png

Only take sectors as requested by the FE storyline. Especially, do not take the province Kolaburg completely until the quest "Down the Rabbit Hole," as otherwise you will have to research an additional technology. Also, be sure to take sectors of Fort Buntu by force, since this will yield 2 Rail Gun (artillery units) and 2 Satellite Spotter (ranged units).

Also, if the player receives the quest "An Old Acquaintance," they will receive an additional 3 Exoskeleton Soldier (light units). It is not quite known how this quest can exactly be triggered, or what causes it not to be triggered. I got this quest when negotiating all the FE provinces.

In total, the player can gain 4 Hover Tanks (heavy units), 6 Exoskeleton Soldier (light units), 2 Drone Swarm (fast units), 2 Rail Gun (artillery units), and 2 Satellite Spotter (ranged units). The FE story requires 3 techs to be researched, 4 if the player takes Kolaburg completely before the quest "Down the Rabbit Hole."

After the story quests jump to FE, the story follows along normally. The player is not tech blocked after they skip the CE blocker until they reach the end of the OF story. To see more information on the AF and OF stories, troops, and cMaps, see Part 5. The only real limiter past this point is the number of techs the player has left to research for quests.

Part 5: Arctic Future to Oceanic Future Troops

This section covers the ability of the player to get up to Oceanic Future troops in all ages InA and above.

Arctic Future Troops
A negotiation route on the AF cMap will yield slightly less troops, but also require one less technology to be researched. If a player forgot to leave enough technologies open to research, it is wiser to negotiate to get to the better OF troops. However, if the player has enough technologies fighting will yield more higher era troops overall. Since, at this point, technologies to research may become more scarce, charts will be provided to show which troops can be gained after each subsequent tech.

The AF troops gained per techs researched can be seen below, separated by the method obtained.

Same as Fighting Route

As mentioned in the chart above, there is a combination route of fighting and negotiating that can give you the same amount of troops as the fighting route, but with only one less tech being needed. This strategy is the best route for most players. Less goods needed, one less tech needed for research, and the maximum number of troops is incredibly helpful. It's explained below, and a big thank you to @NickGlover314 and @Ben Trovato for finding and refining this strategy.
To get all the troops but only need four techs, you must do the following:
Negotiate: The first 5 Native-owned provinces (Nutarniq, Iluliaq, Tuklavik, Ananevut and Qaniit)
Fight at least one sector of each: Nilak and Nunataq
Either Fight or Negotiate: Everything else

To see a little more on this, check out @NickGlover314's post [here] and @Ben Trovato's post [here].

On the OF map, it does not matter whether you fight or negotiate. The troops gained are the same either way, and there is no difference in diamonds from the questline either. Additionally, since some sectors will eventually cost promethium and orichalcum to negotiate, and those can only be gained in earlier ages by spending diamonds, fighting will be much cheaper on the OF map. As with the AF troops, the OF troops will be presented by troops per tech researched, as seen in the chart below.
OF Story Troops
Troops gained before Tech Requirements:
2 Hydroelectric Eel (fast units), 2 Sub Cruiser (ranged units)
With 1 Tech:
2 Sub Cruiser (ranged units), 2 C.R.A.B. Mech (heavy units), + above
With 2 Techs:
2 Hydroelectric Eel (fast units), + above
With 3 Techs:
2 Turturret (artillery units), 2 Sub Cruiser (ranged units), 2 C.R.A.B. Mech (heavy units), + above
With 4 Techs:
2 Manta (light units), 2 Hydroelectric Eel (fast units), + above
With 5 Techs:
2 C.R.A.B. Mech (heavy units), 2 Turturret (artillery units), 2 Sub Cruiser (ranged units), + above
Total:
6 Hydroelectric Eel (fast units), 8 Sub Cruiser (ranged units), 6 C.R.A.B. Mech (heavy units), 4 Turturret (artillery units), and 2 Manta (light units)

After reaching the quest "Persuasion," the player becomes tech blocked until they reach OF. After this, the player can get no more higher aged troops.

Returning to the PME Questline
If the player so chooses, after receiving all the troops that they want from the questline, if they are in or below PME, it is possible to return to the PME questline rather than being stuck at the end of OF by simply aborting or completing the quest "Truth or Dare." After doing so and completing one story quest, the player will receive the quests that follow Truth or Dare.

Additionally, if the player has not completed the conditions of "Truth or Dare," most likely the "pay" part of it, then it is still possible to abort the quest. In this case, it is also possible for the player to receive the 2 PME Rocket Artillery (artillery units) from the PME story. However, if at any point the player does complete both conditions of the quest, it becomes impossible to abort the quest and thus you can not receive the artillery.

Great guide. Is it possible to get any Contemporary Era troops in Postmodern?
Yes. In fact, you can get up to OF units in PME. To get the CE troops you complete the CE map, following the story quests. However, doing so results in a tech-research quest that requires you to age up to CE to complete, thus ending your push on the cMap for troops until reaching CE.

To avoid this, you have to only take certain CE sectors and then take the first sector of the FE map. Doing so skips the tech blocker quest, the remainder of the CE questline, and the entire TE questline. However, there still seems to be some uncertainty about how to do this correctly, so I haven't yet written the section to explain it. Within a year or so, I plan on aging up to PME and attempting this with the strategy I think is most likely to succeed. If it works I'll write up the section.

Raino on YouTube just upload a video explaining how to avoid the tech block in CE to get hover tank in PME. You should check it out. I’m not interested in that as it will wipe out the whole CE and TE story quests, and it costs a lot. I’m currently in Indy, and I got the MG team, and they are amazing for Indy. Do you think I can get some anti aircraft vehicle if I age up to PME? Should I fight or negotiate certain provinces in the CE map?

If I were you I'd continue on the PME cMap to get the champ as well. But that's just my preference.

I'm not a fan of Raino, since they tend to leave out information or not tell you certain things, but most of it is accurate as far as I can tell.

You should get some AAVs (I think, not 100% sure. Once again, I haven't tested this so I can't verify it) from the cMap, and you'd want to negotiate the Sheik's provinces. You get more diamonds. :)

Yes, you can get AAVs. I got two, but generally, you get rewarded more if you negotiate, which I did not, so maybe you can get more. No worries to the people worrying about OF units in PME. If you don't get them then, you can get them in CE too, plus CE is much better to fight in.
