iPad FoE Guide

DeletedUser2145

The staff at EN was kind enough to allow us to borrow their amazing iPad guide, we thank them for that. Great job to Kimba Lioness on the guide! I have however slightly modified the writing in order to change the British English to American English. If you notice something I've missed, let me know.

Please click the 'Show!' buttons to see the images which were hidden in spoiler tags to compress the guide's size.

1 -Logging in and out using iPad

This still works along the same lines as on the browser version, for those of you that play both. So when you first open the app you will see this page.

miKyBNh.jpg

It is very important before logging in you ensure to select the correct server. In the top right hand corner you need to tap the small flag, this will open the below page listing all Forge of Empires servers, here you will need to select the server you want.

0xiNX7H.jpg

Once done this will take you back to the login page above.

If you hit NEW PLAYER this will start a new game as a guest user. You will have the chance to register the account later if you wish to keep playing.

For those who already hold an account, you need to tap LOGIN. You will then be directed to this page:
3pbbQlS.jpg

Simply enter your player name and password; you will then see the screen below, where you will need to select the world you wish to enter.

2JVxqEL.jpg

This will log you into your existing game wherever you left off.

Logging out

To ensure the app doesn't time out, it is best after each session to log back out. The iPad will keep your login details, so there is no need to keep re-entering them. To log out you need to look at the options along the bottom of the screen, and select settings (looks like 2 cogs) and then you will see this:

EsXfE1f.jpg

Tap LOGOUT and you're done.

2 - Opening New Technologies and Building Your City!

One of the best features is that you can now build your very own, brand new, unique city however you want! :D

To build any new building, you first need to unlock them.

Along the bottom of the screen are your different menu options. The second icon along which looks like a chemistry glass is your technology tree - tap here to open it.

06O7PJD.jpg

Here is the start of the tech tree as you will see it when you begin.

3ijLy0o.jpg

By swiping the screen you can scroll along to see future eras. You must unlock certain technologies before you can open those further along. By tapping on each tech you can see the cost to unlock it. When you meet these costs that tech will open and then display a green tick as you see in the image above. Whatever building or item it is you opened, will now be available in your build menu to place in your new city.

So this time, from the menu you need to tap the very farthest to the left, which looks like a building hammer within a hand. This is the build menu. In here you will find all items currently available for you to build.

jwtm1Bp.jpg

Above is the build menu when open. You can see there are numerous options along here - houses, supplies, decorations, military buildings and even your expansions to make the city bigger.; these are all in here. If you look at the image, you can also see that when the build menu is open, at the far top right are two small icons MOVE and SELL.

Next to expansions is roads, all trails, and roads unlocked are in here. To build your roads, click on the type you would like build, then on your city place this first segment where you would like the road to begin, and press the green tick. Then you can see small arrows beside this piece of road, swipe along the screen where you wish to build the road, when done press the green tick once more, this will then place the road for you. I have added an image of this below for you.

K7VIoug.jpg
first segment

plqAGRz.jpg
last segment

If you wish to move a building, you need to tap the MOVE icon so it is highlighted, then click the building you wish to move. Once in the spot you are happy with, click the green tick, as shown on the image below.

5yfzt4d.jpg

Selling items works in the same way. First, open the build menu, then tap the SELL icon so it is highlighted and press the building you wish to sell. You will then get a small window asking you to confirm the action.

3 - Neighborhood, Friends and Guilds

When you play Forge of Empires you have three lists as above. You can motivate and polish others players buildings to help them, and they can also visit your city to return the favor. You can't help players if they are not on one of your lists.

Neighborhoods

As you sign in for the very first time, you will be placed into a neighborhood, of around 80 players. To see them, tap the icon bottom right of your screen, that looks like three houses.

2f83GSt.jpg

Once you press the icon, you will see a new row across the bottom of the screen showing all the other players in your neighborhood, friends and guild as below. Please note however that the current version of the iPad app does not include the ability to join or create guilds, or to send or accept friend invites; to do this at present you must log on via the browser version. Scroll along to see them all.

oTuADy1.jpg

With your neighbors, tap on them and you will see the option to either enter their city, message them (when available) or attack them. The screen shot below shows you this.

4MfN2HS.jpg

Attacks, PvP tournaments, and plunder will be covered in more detail later in the guide.

As you and your neighbors will likely progress through the game at different speeds, there is a neighborhood merge every two weeks. This means that at midnight server time (CET/CEST), after the PvP tournaments have ended there will a merge. Some times you will not move and will stay with the same players. Some times you will notice some players leave and you gain a few new ones. Other weeks you will be moved into a new neighborhood.

Friends

If you have played the web version, your friends will also be visible, under the friends tab. To visit you tap on them and again you will see the option to enter their city, here you can motivate or polish your friend. You can send up to 80 friend requests, and then you can accept requests until you reach the maximum 140 limit.

Sadly friend inviting and accepting is not yet available on the iPad app - but I will enter more detail here as this feature is released.

Guilds

As with friends, guilds are not yet released on the app. However, if you have played the web version and are a member of a guild, they will also be visible to you under your guild tab.

Guilds are groups of up to 80 players. Being in a guild holds many benefits - you have an additional 79 players who can motivate and polish your buildings. Also, trading is free in guild so you don't have to use your precious forge points to trade with guild members. You will also be able to participate in Guild vs Guild and reap the additional benefits your guild wins such as daily forge points from your town hall, or reduced building costs as a couple of examples. This will be covered in more detail later in the guide as this feature is released.

Whether players are in your hood, guild or friends list, you will be able to motivate and polish them, trade with them, and also donate forge points to their Great Buildings and vice versa. If a player is not on one of these lists, you will not be able to interact with them in this way.

4 - Continent Map

So next is your continent map, the third icon along which looks like a small compass, this is where you will discover new lands! I will add a screen shot here of the first map you will start a new game on, you can see on this image that the province is in red - this means the province is not yet owned.

AYWiQK1.jpg

Within each province are smaller sectors, each sector you will need to either negotiate, which is to pay goods instead of fighting, or fight a battle to win the sector. Fighting will also gain you battle points towards your PvP tournament, and add points to your personal player score. Here is another image; within this province there are 3 sectors. One is green to show owned, and two still need to be conquered and are still red.

9eBtkOv.jpg

Once you have fought/negotiated all sectors you win that province on the map.

LCR3DEb.jpg

You will now see new options to scout new lands, though you can only perform one scout at a time, and while the scout is scouting, you won't be able to see any other scouting options until complete. Here I have added two images, one showing before the scout, and one showing the scout in action.

Before.
Nev3hjp.jpg
Scouting.
zv2gTsV.jpg

Just like the tech tree has ages you move through, the continent map works the same way. You will start in Bronze age, and as you open more lands you will move into new ages on the map. Later you will use ships and planes to discover new lands!

Each province holds a different reward; some will give you goods boosts, some will reward you coins and supplies, expansions to place in your city, and also the PvP towers are unlocked on the continent map.

Some ages also have a bonus map added. These offer you other bonus prizes, as well as things like extra medals and other resources. Not all bonus maps are released as yet - so there is still more to come. :)

5 - Army Management

This is the icon which looks like a helmet; it is the fourth tab along on your menu bar.

Any barracks you build in your city can be used to train units, when trained these units will appear within your army management, as well as any other unattached units you might win along the way.

QpbGsLB.jpg

The layout is quite simple; along the bottom is your unit pool where all your units will be, whether they are attached to a barracks or unattached.

Up above is the currently selected army, up to 8 units which you will use when you want to fight, either a neighbor or on the continent map. You cannot use more than 8, although you can use less, so be careful not to enter battle without selecting a full army first! The units you see with a blue border are your assigned defending army. Your defending army can also be used as an attacking army at the same time. But beware, if you suffer losses when you attack someone else this will reflect on the units so your defending army will be weakened.

uGwsd2w.jpg

To select units either for your attacking or defending armies, simply tap any unit. You'll see a pop-up window that lets you choose to move a unit to your attacking army, to assign it to your defending army, to heal it using diamonds, or to delete it. The icons will show in that respective order. Simply choose the one you need.

gVV9F5b.jpg

You can also tap and drag units if you wish to move them from and to your attacking army. Finally, as you advance through the game you will gather a large army from all the different ages. When you have many units it can be time consuming finding the ones you want, so there is a small drop down to the right hand side that you can tap; this will filter units from a specific era.

6 - Messaging

Next on the menu is your messaging, which just looks like an envelope. When you tap to open, you see you are on your event history.

WAMPVLb.jpg

This shows you any recent activity related to your town; any one who has visited you and motivated or polished your buildings will be listed here. You can also see any attacks - and whether you won or lost these, and if you have been plundered.

The other two headers within messaging relate to sending in-game messages which is not yet released on the iPad version.

More to come...

DeletedUser2145

7 - Trade

So, the sixth tab on your menu looks like an auction hammer, this is your market where you can trade goods. As mentioned earlier you will win goods boosts on your continent map. There are 5 goods every era that you can construct buildings to produce. But you will only get 2 goods boosts each era. Ideally you want to produce the goods you have a boost for. With no boost a goods building will make you 1 good per 4 hours. With a boost your goods building will make 5 goods per 4 hours. So you see producing with no boost is not ideal. You can use trade, to trade for other goods you need.

When you open trade by tapping it you will be here:

1ZWsaKf.jpg

You can see all trades which have been posted by players who are in your neighborhood, guild, and friends list. To take a trade from a guild member is free, but to trade with friends or neighbors will cost 1 forge point per trade; the player taking the trade pays the forge point.

The second tab is create offer, here you can place trades from your goods stocks for others you need. You will select the good to trade, and the good you need, enter the amounts, then post your trade.

6m0LIS9.jpg

You will now be able to see your current trade in the third tab, your current offers. As will all other players in your neighborhood, guild and friends lists.

DeletedUser2145

8 - Inventory / Storage

The next tab from the left that looks like a box. If you play on the browser version, you will notice that the inventory is a little different on the iPad.

When you open your inventory you can view your goods stocks. This will show you all of your current goods stocks as well as your medals balance. You can scroll down to see goods from the other ages.

The middle tab titled 'Inventory' will show you all items you have stored, this might include buildings or decorations you have won, any forge point packages that you win will go in here also. You can place any items from your inventory into your city - provided you have space and the necessary resources of course!

0gBuI0t.jpg

Finally the third tab in here is Great Buildings. These will be covered in more depth later within the guide, but here is where you can come and check which blueprints you have gathered so far. You can also click the great buildings tool tips (the blue question mark), which will then show you more information about that building.

By tapping on the image of the great building, this will open a larger description for you, and show the goods needed to place that great building within your town.

9 - General layout

Along the bottom of the screen you have your menu bar which we covered in the previous sections of this guide.

In the bottom right is an icon with three houses which can be used to access friends, neighbors and guild lists.

To the top left of the screen you have small boxes containing your quests - follow these as they will guide you through the game, some are optional and can be skipped.

Along the top of the page, starting from left to right:

Global Ranking - Currently you can see what number you are ranked among the players of is world. When you tap the ranking though this wont open as yet until the full global ranking is released. When available, you will be able to view all players on the same world.

Population - this number tells you how many free population you have. If you tap here, it will open a small window telling you what total population is, and how much free population you have a able to use.

Next along is the smiley face - you want to keep this gold all the time, as this means your townspeople are enthusiastic which gives you a 120% boost your productivity. All coin and supplies buildings will produce more, and when you fight you will receive more points also. Again, tap the face for more detailed information.

Beside the smiley face, is your forge point bar. You accrue 1 forge point per hour to a total of 10. You can buy more forge points by tapping the small plus sign on the bar. Forge points are used to open all your technologies, donating to great buildings, and paying for trades.

Then you can see your coin, supplies and medal balances that you have, and finally the last column is diamonds. You do win diamonds from some quests but these are rare. You can also purchase diamonds by pressing the small plus side beside. On iPad the only current method is via iTunes.

10 - Attacking, Plundering, PvP and Weekly Tournaments

Attacking is a big part of the game ! You can attack any player in your neighborhood, but you cannot attack any players who are in your guild or on your friends list. You can also fight on your continent map as detailed in post number 4.

Every time you fight and win, you receive battle points, these increase your global score. After a successful attack on a neighbor, once you beat their defenses you will now have to option to plunder them! You can plunder any building that can be motivated, so houses, supplies buildings, halls of fame, shrines of knowledge, and goods buildings can be plundered also. You can only plunder buildings which have finished their production cycles and are dry to collect; if a building can be plundered you will see a small icon above the building as pictured below which looks a little like a small silver lightning bolt.

IJLStTS.jpg

You can attack each member in your neighborhood one time every 24 hours; you then have 24 hours in which to plunder them.

PvP Tournaments

As you gain control of provinces on your continent map you will see that in every era you will gain a PvP (player vs player) tower on the map. Once you have acquired the tower for that era, you can now participate in PvP. If you click on the tower you can see any one who has already been fighting in that era, as well as the rewards available to the top fighters. The higher you rank the more medals you win; medals are used to buy expansions.

NeXip4x.jpg

There is a PvP tournament every week, this starts early Monday morning GMT and runs until the towers close late on the following Sunday night GMT. At this time all winners are credited any medals they have won. All players in your neighborhood can participate if they wish - and if they have unlocked their PvP towers also.

To fight in a specific tower you must fight with units from that age; your points will be allocated to the PvP tower belonging to the same age as the highest age unit in your attacking army. So for example - if you own the Bronze age tower - and NOT the Iron age tower, but you take Iron age units into battle, you will receive battle points on your global score, but not on any PvP tower, as you do not own the Iron Age tower. To fight in the Bronze age tower, you must not take any units from higher ages than bronze age.

11 - Great Buildings

As you progress through the game you will likely want to start adding some Great Buildings to your Empire. There are two Great Buildings each era. These special buildings give you different bonuses. Below I have linked the new full Great Building Encyclopedia that has an enhanced design, and the old GB Encyclopedia which holds more info, both of which are already posted within the forum. These guides detail every Great Building available at present, and detail all the boosts that they will give you when constructed, among other info as well as images.

Great Buildings Encyclopedia

You can access Great Buildings by entering your inventory. Each Great Building needs 9 blue prints to build, you can buy these with diamonds, or you can find them by motivating, polishing and plundering other players, and also by donating onto other players' Great Buildings.

To find a blue print from a specific era, Bronze Age for example, you will need to motivate and polish Bronze Age buildings. If you want to obtain a Tower of Babel blueprint by donating to a Great Building, you will need to donate to another Tower of Babel, and finish as one of the top contributors. You can clearly see within the building the reward you will receive should you finish in any given position when the GB levels up. I have added a screen shot of a Great Building and its contributors on to demonstrate. By clicking the small chest - you see the prize!

F4pVB14.jpg

When you have gathered a full set of blueprints, you will need some goods from that era; goods requirements will be listed in the GB section of your inventory. Once you have these you can now build your Great Building! Every Great Building needs forge points to level. As the Great Buildings levels up, your boosts received will also increase.

12 - Guild vs Guild

Guild vs Guild is where all guilds can go and battle each other on the guild maps and work their way up the guild rankings. The higher the level of the guild, the more guild rewards they will receive.

Here is the link to the existing GvG guide for those wishing to read up.

Guild vs Guild Full Guide

As this feature is not yet released on iPad, I shall post more relevant information here upon release. Watch this space...

I tried it but only lead me to a credit card payment option...
Please, advise.

1. You load the iTunes card(s) to the apple ID
2. When you buy diamonds it automatically goes through the App Store and pulls from the gift card(s)

That's what I've been told. :)

How can iPad player access guild forum?
1) Go to your browser
2) Go to us.forgeofempires.com/page/ (if it sends you to the app store, try requesting desktop site. The "/page/ at the end should prevent that from happening though)
3) Log in
4) Click on your world to attempt to log in (you'll receive a message along the lines of "This game runs on Adobe 11.5")
5) Copy your browser URL (along the lines of "us#.forgeofempires.com/game/index?ref=", where # is a number that refers to your world)
6) Open new tab
7) Paste the URL and edit it to: us#.forgeofempires.com/game/forum (pretty much deleting the "index?ref=" part and replacing it with "forum")
8) Your guild forum should show if all goes well :)

(You may need to repeat the entire process every time you want to access the forums though.)

Whoa... Does that work on pc too?

Edit- it sure does.

Actually it is much easier to simply log into the game on a pc using your mobile player name, etc. Once you are in the world you use in your mobile world you can access your guild forum the same way you would normally do it. I currently play on both my iPad and my laptop in the same world, same player (of course not at the same time) and this allows me to do things I cannot do on my iPad alone.

I do not see a log in option when I go to the link under bullet 2. Was it taken away? Thanks!

I'm still able to access it at least on Chrome. On bullet 2, make sure the "Request desktop site" is activated (Red Arrow), and the login portion is pretty much under the menu (the Green Circle next to it):
