Is this "free" pastime getting too expensive?

I spent way too much on diamonds getting started a few weeks ago. I am embarrassed to reveal how much. Now I I am finding how frustrating it is to run up against a demand for diamonds when I did not have the resources to continue a quest I had invested a lot of effort into. So I resolved,, if I continue to play at all, to stop buying diamonds and to slow my pace through the ages. I am stuck in LMA and will be spending a lot less time playing.

I have never bought diamonds, and I make a nice share from GE and GBG.
I haven't bought any diamonds, ever. As you build up your city you'll find ways to earn diamonds for free. So your resolution to stop buying diamonds and slow your pace through the ages is exactly the way to go.
Way to go!

Buying Diamonds works well when one knows what to get with them. I look at FoE just like Magic. There are some "must have" cards for certain decks and in FoE, there are certain "must have" GB's. Thankfully the amount of desirable GB's is way under the amount of desirable Rares! This is how I built my recursion based city. Magic and Mage Knight set me back $5K so to spend half of that on Diamonds and a dedicated computer system just for playing FoE on is like gaming at half price for me.

To the F2P players: If you do very well not buying Diamonds, you are showing how clever you can be. That is a challenge akin to a Tiny Town setup to do well, so let me extend a "Bravo!" your way.

Dedication to the game is the real force multiplier, more valuable than in infinite amount of Diamonds would be.

Except it really isn't even close to as hard as doing the Tiny Town challenge. You just need will power to keep that card in your pocket. That is a different type of Magic.

One lesson a Magic player learns is if you are a serious tournament player, you need the cards to play at that level. It takes $$$ on a continuous basis as each set gets released to keep up plus the major expense of acquiring everything needed at the start. FoE is a genuine gaming bargain for me in comparison. It is also far cheaper than going to the casino....LOL!

Ive spent some RLC but only to boost up my new city. Its hard starting from scratch. No real worries. But it is a cause for concern when you blow 3k diamonds on a bldg in daily specials. Crazy inno

Yes especially during events when they offer diamond promotions such as purchase of diamonds with fps or other items needed for those events.

yes I learned, take your time and I also learned now in a couple worlds I have so many completed GBs that are ready for construction, the patience is land! The world map has been a help with that as well.

Sadly i cheated using real money to get my new cities up and running. Its hard starting from scratch. Once you start that cycle of investing diamonds, it becomes more personal than a casual approach to playing this game. But i still love foe. I play 12-13 hours daily.
