Let's Talk About Microtransactions & Game State

They actually appeared about the same time, but it was several months before Arc fever became pervasive.

GE's wiki page first showed up in may 2016. Arc's in october 2015. So arc was a solid 6 month gap in release earlier.

But it was maybe a couple years for "everyone" to catch on that a high level Arc wasn't just for the "bigwigs". And for the concept of 1.8 threads to gain prevalence to help the trailing waves catch up instead of top players just sniping away at people using swap threads :p

When GE came out though one of the things about unlock costs was how many people 1 person with an arc could cover for. Meant AF+ goods were still worthless (big talking point at that time because of no Arctic Future GvG map).

Given that the Wiki has only been updated in spurts, and not always in a timely manner, that's hardly conclusive. The fan wiki gives Nov 4 2015 as the date FE came out on live, which is when the Arc would have debuted, too. And the update for May 2016 here on the live Forum already lists an improvement to GE. In any case, as you said, it took a t least a year and a half for the Arc fever/virus to hit my guild after the Arc was released. I know that because we had a first year of GE stat of 99% first place finishes as a guild. After that the top players in the guild started leaving for guilds with high level Arcs and 1.9 threads.

EDIT: Checking through the feedback threads, it was early November 2015 for FE/Arc and mid May 2016 for GE. Side note: It's interesting that they left the feedback threads up but deleted the actual Features update threads.

Wiki was updated much more reliably back then - especially for new content - benefit of an invested community. You could even reliably count on someone going and digging up the next day's daily special from thailand for you and posting it back then ;) If someone took a break, someone else would step up.

Now it's rather funny that, for instance, neither the official nor unofficial wiki have even been updated for the EMA version of QI which has been out for many months for instance. It's a lot of work to do, and noone cares enough to do it :) Not even inno on their official site (which has the EMA buildings if you search for them one by one, but the overview page is still fully dialed into the iron age version of what QI was).

More specifically, the game credits list them as Lead Game Designer. But yeah, it is rather sad. Especially given how incredibly young he seemed to be in any video content released.
Yeah he was not old by any means. Unfortunate and sad. I hope he finds rest and great pride alongside happiness knowing his art and craft still lives on.

I thought about doing it myself a long time ago, doing a wiki fan-site type of thing, but there's just far, far too much things in the game that are constantly changing. That and the "meta" of the game itself. I don't think people want to do that because a lot of it becomes dead content the second something else becomes better unfortunately. I noticed the wiki, for the most part is not very updated and upkept. Back then, yes you are correct. I used to look at it all the time. Now I have to go with my best judgement which is alright and all, but it is a little concerning when it comes to the benefits of an invested community.

Dropped off a bit for various reasons which I am sure we all know about and why. I just at times think it is something worth talking about.

It is a controversial topic and that is the entire point of it and the posts, but it's something I feel is crucial to the development of the game and community.

Guess i'm old and suffering a fading memory. I'd have sworn the Arc appeared before GE. lol
I get stuff wrong myself on the dates from time to time. Sometimes stuff seems to have happened so close together and it being over 10 years you just kind of remember things in that old Mandela Effect.

pretty sure Arc came with FE in Nov 2015 and GE started May 2016 had to look up dates but arc being first stuck in my memory because i was still struggling to figure out arc math when GE hit the scene..lol

I can't remember the exact date on it and year. I know it was somewhere around there, however. I had to look it up and I got really condescending information on it. I remember that day as well.

I remember when people filled their cities with the shrine of knowledge and dark doors along with the towers and so forth to mine points back then. They still do got the fountain cities here and there. Still hits me with some nostalgia when I see them every once in awhile. I still got a couple of them in my city since I returned back. Fully aware they are not efficient at all, just having them sit there until I eventually get something better, but they remind me of the old times and some of the very old guilds and when the game was in the early years.

Found the original announcement for it:

Yeah, though if we really want a wiki that's updated (for everyones benefit) the only way I can imagine that reliably happening is if everyone updates the fan-wiki that's already there instead of all doing their own personal projects.

That or if Innogames finds a way to automate the process on their wiki / knowledgebase

Thank you for posting the video.

Yes, it is not a one man project. I do have the assets to make fan related websites and so forth. It's more so that I would be a one man band unless I can find a team and that is easier said than done. It is still something I ponder with, but perhaps going in a different direction for it as I am unsure if enough people will be onboard with this or not given the amount of volume and complexity the game has and how much updates and time may be required.

When I hear automate I tend to think AI and that's not something I trust. At least not in the stages it is at at the current moment. But, if you mean a team that updates things as it happens, it might happen, but I would not get my hopes up for that as a lot of companies do not do their own Wiki sites in the gaming community.

It is a topic worth pondering over and thinking about though in my opinion. It may help the support staff in the long run as well aside the player base.
