This submission requires from you a dose of your imagination. It is not just a poem to be read, it is more of a collaboration, because in order to fully understand my intention you must listen to an absent soundtrack. It is soundtrack that must come from you, your own sound library from your life experiences. The words are in bold type, please "listen" to them slowly. In parenthesis are the sounds you are asked to contribute. These should also be "listened" to slowly. Let each line form whole in your mind before you experience it. You may want to run this through twice. I hope that you enjoy our shared endeavor and that you look upon it as a gift from me to you. The poem is called:
Marked Time
time
is time
is time
(tick . . . tock)
it is the steady march
(trudge . . . trudge . . . trudge)
it is the distant drum
(bah rumph . . . bah rumph . . . bah rumph . . . bah rumph)
it is marked in heart beats
(thump thump . . . thump thump . . . thump thump)
in laughter
(a child's voice: giggle . . . giggle)
in tears
(sobs)
and loves
(whispered "I love you")
it is the sound of the earth
(a single ocean wave calmly coming into shore)
and those upon it
(distant sound of many voices)
waiting for heaven
