Replace Units!

Disgruntled Veteran

Anyone here in the forums selected to test the “Replace Units” feature?

So far I think it’s a great addition. The only issue that I see is that it’s not added to the encounters on the c-map for mining special goods. Granted there really isn’t a need to move quickly on the c-map, it still seems like an oversight as it’s added to army management in the city. Other than that it’s great!

Sadly I wasn't selected, not here and not on beta. From all I've read, it's a very useful feature and I'm looking forward to eventually getting it.

I've never been the B in the A/B test. I'm always in the control group. Which is quite annoying...

Inno's trying to say that it doesn't impact the game, but there's no way that this doesn't speed up battles.

It showed up for me today. I've only used it a little bit so far but it is nice being able to swap out and replace troops with one click.

Battles are sped up significantly, up to nearly 3x as fast. This puts those not chosen at a huge disadvantage for the period this test takes place. Not understanding what the Beta server is for if not to test this feature.

I have had it running the same test on Beta for a while. running with next to no faults. So why they need to test in on the live servers as well does not make sense. Especially as they are past masters at releasing stuff to live that still have loads of bugs despite Beta testers telling them not to do so.

Actually, I think you've always been the B in the A/B tests. I'm pretty sure the A is the one that gets whatever feature/mechanic that is being tested.

Incidentally, as far as their reasoning for the A/B test (to see if it negatively or positively affects player behavior) is significantly flawed. I've only got this in 4 of my 11 cities and I can say that it can't help but positively affect player behavior. Players are going to naturally participate more in battle-oriented features due to this taking much of the tedium out of the process. I am shocked (not really) that Inno needs any kind of test to know this.

I am a recipient of the new "REPLACE" feature in LIVE (H world), but I didn't get it in beta. I'm not disappointed I didn't get it in beta, as more appropriate people than I did and that's just fine.
In live, I am starting to use it and so far, I think it's a good addition. The faster you want to go, the more you're going to have to really nail down the new button placement , but once you do, you can refresh very quickly - even every time - if your warriors counts are in the thousands.

It's going to put one hell of a load on the servers.... LOL

Wonder what the lag will be for the first half hour when GBG opens LOL.
I think they are testing to see if lag gets much worse than it already is lol
Otherwise, I don't think there is much need for more testing since I am guessing the vast majority of players like the change, which is a nice contrast to many of the changes in the past few years.

In just one day I’ve already gotten used to it to the point that I keep trying to hit the button while I’m on the c-map mining special goods. But it wasn’t added in there. It does greatly improve GBG! I just wish it was added everywhere for encounters. I know there’s no need to rush when mining special goods, but it’d be nice is all. Especially seeming that they did add it within the army management that’s in the city menu.

I have it here. I did have to reload to activate it. I also have it Beta.

I really like it and I am inclined to do more fights with it.

What doesn't make any sense is....

The testing of this (via A/B testing methodology) has started in beta (maybe a week ago?...). I was not chosen there, and that's fine.

However, it's now in live and I was chosen (which is also fine).

But you would think that the REST of the people in BETA would be given the feature by now, since the testing has moved on to a new population (live players).

That's not the case, but should be.

As of this morning, the unchosen BETA players (which I am...) that didn't get the first look at this, should NOW be "upgraded" to testing it, so that the entire BETA population is uniformly doing so, while at the same time, the live group stays under a formal A/B test with it's population being filtered for use.

To have 2 A/B testing going on for the same item, at the same time reduces deep testing design, and creates less feedback.

Would be a nice addition if they did not flip flop the Attack and Auto Battle buttons.

I agree totally. Many beta players noted this and did not like it either. Inno covered this "decision" (oversight??) by saying it was "required" to flip their locations.... LOL. I cannot fathom why, either.
Changing the position of buttons in the game that we depress quickly thousands of times a day for new position that seemingly don't add any value..... HMmm.

Changelog 1.284
  • FOE-82214: In preparation to potential future changes, we switched the order of the attack and auto-attack buttons.
Who could say if the Replace Units is the feature that needed the swap or if there’s more changes to come?

Thank you for finding that reference. I remember that I saw it (I think there was actually more to what I saw....), but came up empty for getting it.

Nice you got something related to the switching activity.
