Inno doesn't know their own client base. The guild that I was in prior to going solo had 9 very wealthy individuals in it. Dropping $500 worth of diamonds on a season is nothing to a lot of players. I get called an idiot for dropping 22K on this game but everything needs to be taken into perspective. Many are retired and this game is their social life. The P2W and the F2P live in different worlds but we both need each other to keep the game alive.I played a copycat version of GBG by a different company, that had no timer.
It was so much harder to defend without that hard-coded block, because the top Guild had the resources to beach everyone else and was on much more frequently than everyone else. Every time I logged on the top Guild that spent the most had captured everything we or any other Guild had worked on. And from memory there were probably double the amount of Guilds for them to beach than we have here, across a map many times larger than Inno uses.
If Inno did the same thing, you wouldn’t have it any easier to defend your sectors. You’d just be increasing your requirements to stay online, and by extension increasing the requirements for raising your city stats, having a fast internet connection and a large participant pool in your Guild
The only way you’re going to fix a power discrepancy is by finding something that equalises. But you’ll probably never find one that works (longterm) due to the very nature of a Free-to-Play game. Every time you fix the problem the next increase in a players city stats unfixes it, and without change over time you’re never going to retain player attention. Which naturally requires some degree of powercreep which creates gaps between Guild power that gets wider the longer a game exists
