User name: (your game username)

This fact will leave you with smiles
For the Irish have terrible piles
The doctors prescribe stout
'cos it flushes you out
Should be the Black not the Emerald Isles

This is the tale of Lord Dennis.
A FOE player from Ennis.
With a mighty army a menace
Till he drank Guinness
Alas here lies Lord Dennis
His army laid low by the Guinness.

Ireland is the home of the worlds oldest pub. Sean's Bar in Althone, was founded in 900.

There once was an old man of Lyme
Who married three wives at a time.
When asked, “Why a third?”
He replied, “One’s absurd!
And bigamy, sir, is a crime.”

Fact:
St Patrick wasn't Irish, and he wasn't born in Ireland. Patrick's parents were Roman Citizens lving in modern-day England, or more precisely in Scotland or Wales. )scholars cannot agree on which). He was born in 385 AD. By that time most Romans were Christians and the Christian religion was spreading rapidly across Europe.

I'm not a poet so I'm not going to try, here's an interesting fact instead:

Ireland is the only country in the world with a musical instrument as it's national symbol: the harp.

(This is a question rather than a new post - did I read somewhere we can post once a day rather than just once period?)

A St Patty’s Day contest, so cool, it’s cold
Filled with tons of prizes, or so I am told
It isn't a gimmick
You must write a limerick
Being lucky or good wins a big pot o’ gold

Wake the dead!

The Irish beguile with a smile,
From the lairds to the plain rank and file.
Yet they often get frisky
When they start drinking whiskey
Whilst waking on the Emerald Isle!

Here's an interesting tidbit:
The Newgrange passage tomb in County Meath was constructed around 3200 BC, making it more than 600 years older than the Giza Pyramids in Egypt, and 1,000 years older than Stonehenge.
hope I win!

Ballygally Castle in County Antrim, is allegedly one of the most haunted places in the country.

Once was an Irish Lad named Tater
He got plundered and became a hater
Revenge upon them! proclaimed he,
and built up his bronze armies three
Alas, he still lost- come back later

Answer
Even Saint Patrick liked a tipple. It was once popular in Ireland to pin sprigs of shamrocks on your coat on Saint Patrick's day in remembrance of his using shamrock leaves to illustrate the idea of the holy trinity. At the end of the day, one would "drown the shamrock" by putting a few shamrocks into a glass and covering them with whiskey.

Answer: St. Patrick was credited for exterminating all snakes from the emerald isle, which is the biggest reason he is remembered. If someone would get all the snakes off my little piece of property i'd celebrate too
