I am playing on an iPad, if that matters
i can't figure out how to join a guild or friend people in the game. People have requested to be friends with me but I can't figure out how to on my end.

Unfortunately, Guilds and Accepting/Inviting friends thus far are not features that have been added to the IOS device versions of the game.

If you want to access those features you will need to access them on a PC.
