[Question] how to place buildings that require adjacent buildings for better rewards

Just wondering if when placing buildings that get more rewards for being next to another of it's type. Does this count if they are diagonal from each other or do they have to have at least part of a side touching another?

They must touch the side of at least one tile. Diagonal does not count.
