"Last Stand"?

I'm fighting some barbarians and it says they get a bonus for "Last Stand". Could someone please explain what this is?

Last Stand - Applicable to Barbarians, Barbarians Slingers, Brave Warriors, and Mounted Braves (units we currently cannot control). When a unit with this bonus dies, the other units with this bonus will gain an attack and defensive boost. This boost will continue to increase the more units with this bonus die.

Hehe no wonder I lost that first battle. These guys are a tough bunch.

An easy way to deal with this is to deal damage to all units without killing any of them, then killing them off easier one-by-one dealing with the bonus as it comes, but limiting the benefit.
