[Guide] Orius' Guide to Sets

DeletedUser30312

Here's a quick little guide to the various building sets in the game. Most of them are now available in the Antique Dealer, though I don't remember if pieces from the Piazza Set have been offered yet. The AD offers both individual pieces as well as selection kits for the sets. In addition, pieces from the Cherry Garden, Indian Palace, and Indian Fountain sets can be won through Daily Challenges.

Note that I'm listing FP and goods production, as well as the bonuses offered by the sets. Coins, supplies, happiness and medals will not be compared, but the sets are not really worth building for any of that, IMO. Naturally, the productions listed are for the full set properly setup to receive all the bonuses.

Don't build a set unless you have all the pieces. Individually the set pieces are pretty weak, and this isn't helped by their inability to be motivated. The sets only show their true power when the pieces are combined. Also note that sets are popular targets for plundering, so there's a risk factor to building them.

Cherry Garden Set.

This was the first set to be offered in the game, introduced in the Spring 2017 event. The Spring 2018 event added an upgrade to the set, improving it. It's one of the most popular and most widely used sets. The pieces were made available in 3 different events, and the upgrades in 2, and the pieces are available as DC prizes, which accounts for its widespread use.

The Cherry Garden provides the following productions and bonuses:

Level 1: 5 fp, +5% attack, +5% defense, 5 goods

Level 2: 7 fp, +10% attack, +12% defense, 10 goods

The Cherry Garden is a really good set to build. It provides a nice amount of FP and goods, while providing some solid combat bonuses. The two main downsides are that there are no boosts for coins or supplies, and the combat boosts are flat and do not improve with level.

Royal Garden Set

The game's second set was introduced in 2017 to commemorate the game's 5th anniversary. It tends to be a somewhat rare set. The Royal Garden provides 2 fp, 5 goods, and a +5% defense bonus. By acquiring multiple pieces in the AD, several copies could be chained together like this:

This setup will provide 6 FP and 20 goods as day, and give the city a +10% bonus to defense, but I think it would be better to build combinations of other, more powerful sets instead.

Indian Palace Set

Another popular and somewhat easy set to acquire, the Indian Palace was one of two sets which was introduced in the Summer 2017 Event. The Indian Palace produces 6 fp and 10 goods a day with just the 5 pieces. One advantage to the set is that all of the pieces are square and can be arranged in a number of different ways, and the smaller 2x2 pieces only need to be placed adjacent to two other pieces, making it very flexible. One popular option is to chain multiple sets together like this:

The two main disadvantages to the set are that it offers no boosts at all, and the central Maharaja's Palace is one of the best buildings in the game to plunder.

Indian Fountain Set

The Indian Fountain was also introduced in the 2017 Summer Event along with the Indian Palace. It produces little of value besides a single FP per day, but it provides one of each type of boost, depending on the Elephant Fountain's age: +2-9% attack, +3-10% defense, +8-15% coins, and +8-15% supplies. It was powerful when first introduced, but newer sets and improvements to the Cherry Garden have weakened it somewhat.

Winter Village Set

The Winter Village was introduced in the 2017 Winter Event and is the most extensive of all the sets with 9 total pieces. A complete set arranged to maximize all bonuses provides 4 FP, 13 goods, +3% attack, +5% defense, +5% coins, and +5% supplies. The main advantage to the Winter Village is that its multiple pieces are small and can can be arranged in many different way. The full set doesn't need to be used either, as each piece only needs to be combined with 3 or 4 other pieces to get a full bonus. If a player just wants to take advantage of the combat boosts, a setup like this can be followed:

This makes a +6% attack, +5% defense and +5 supplies along with 2 goods in a 3x3 square which doesn't require road access at all. It's possible to use the Tinkerer's Tent instead of one of the two Halmbocks to get all of the set's boosts together in a nice offroad 3x3 space. If doing so, the Straw Star Tent could be replaced by Madam Fortuna's Tent which will make a single FP. However, if a player wants both Halmbocks, use the Straw Star Tent, since both of the 1x1 pieces need to touch 4 different pieces for their full bonuses. The Straw Tent will produce 2 goods rather than the full 3 with just three pieces, while Madam Fortuna needs all 4 pieces to make a FP, with only three other pieces the Tent only produces a small amount of medals.

Classical Garden Set

The Classical Garden was the first new set introduced during the 2019 Forge Bowl event a little more than a year after the Winter Village Set. The benefits are relatively small: 3 goods, +4% attack, +5% defense, +6-13% coins, +8-15% supplies. However, even though it doesn't produce much, it's a good low risk set for players who want the combat bonuses. A popular arrangement for the set sandwiches the two lesser pieces between a pair of Pools which provide the combat bonuses like this:

This increases the combat bonuses to +8% attack and +10% defense.

Piazza Set

The Piazza Set was introduced in the 2019 Carnival Event and is the only set besides the Cherry Garden that can be upgraded a level. The productions and bonuses provided by the Piazza Set are:

Level 1: 5 fp, 9 goods, +2-7% attack, +5% defense, +4-9% coins, +4-9% supplies

Level 2: 8 fp, 16 goods, +4-9% attack, +8-13% coins, +8-13% supplies, +8% defense

This is one of the best sets in the game overall.

Cherry Garden vs. Piazza

Both of these sets are pretty similar. Which one is better depends on a player's approach to the game. The Piazza outproduces the Cherry Garden on both levels when it comes to goods, ties the Cherry Garden on FP when both are level 1, and makes more FP on level 2. The Piazza also provides a full set of bonuses, while the Cherry Garden only boosts attack and defense. A level 1 Piazza from FE onwards has a better attack bonus than a level 1 Cherry Garden. However, a level 2 Cherry Garden has better attack and defense bonuses than a level 2 Piazza.
