Can you buy both offensive and defensive boosts for your attack army?

No. You get only attacking boost for your attacking troops.
Defending boosts for only your city defending troops.
You can run both boosts at the same time if you spend diamonds.
But you can not have both on the same units at the same time.

Thanks. Does this mean that the city shield and defending boost are the same just at different level?
