Contest!! St. Patrick's Day 2016

DeletedUser25334

A warrior named Buckshot was proud
He would win, then he'd boast and get loud
He won with vim and vigor
but the armies he fought would grow bigger
Till the master grew seasoned and bowed

Now the warrior grew grizzled and old
To fight solo he couldn't afford
Goods deposits need filled
So he joined with his guild
The warriors spirits restored

Now he fights along side other warriors
As the merchants fall all of the coffers
They laugh as they plunder
Striking terror like thunder
Take no prisoners regardless of offers

Come join with the lost knights and see
Just how awesome a guildie can be
We win and we lose
but regardless we choose
To have fun and be family

Battlefields and buckets of blood
Bodies littered throughout the hood
We steal the GOODS you make
It's there for us to take
To stop it, collect like you should!

A Shepherd in old Langerhorn
Who viewed his flock now freshly shorn
he is certain the fleece
may buy long-lasting peace
While countrymen stay safe and warm

My name is Elfangel the Wise
to all plunders I will advise
When my goods come due
I will be there; not you
To thwart any scheme for my prize

Forge of Empires is the game we all play.
Listen to what I say!
Build you a hut,
Trade in the markut.
Now you are on your way.

Follow Ragu and his story quest
And don't just play as a guest.
Your peeps you will aid,
Please use fair trade,
Can play on mobile, so don’t be depressed.

Spend Forge Points to research some tech,
Like tools or military tactic,
Your army will grow,
Build farms, don’t ya know?
With a goat you can play, what the heck?

Collect all your supply and coin.
A guild is a good thing to join.
Attack people you can.
Motivate and polish, be the plan,
But plunder’s like a kick to the groin.

Enthusiastic your citizens should be.
You want them to smile with glee.
So have some pity,
On your little city,
And build a decoration or three.

Now this is no time for a nap!
We should go and explore the map.
Sectors we are dominating,
By attacking or negotiating,
You acquired a province, oh snap!

Let's now talk a about goods supply.
An example of this is some dye.
It's best to have boost,
More goods be produced,
And then more things you can buy.

A GB is what we all want to build.
Didn't I tell you to join a guild?
I give you these hints,
Now get some blue prints,
You’ll earn if you’re lucky and skilled.

Occasionally there are special events.
Your soldiers will hang out in tents,
While you search for the eggs,
Rinbin's drinking from kegs,
Don't forget about the tournaments.

This is starting to sound outrageous,
But it is a tad bit contagious.
Now give the diamonds to me,
And I think you’ll agree,
They will help me advance through the ages.

Congratulations to all the winners. However, I am not sure I really like the "random draw" aspect... I understand that this may be to eliminate the accusations of biases, but I think it should be based on the actual entry. Some of these entries were not "traditional" limericks. Others just made no sense. Based on the "random draw" I could have just put "Hi, I'm Bob" and had a chance to win 500 diamonds. Obviously you can't change the winners now that they are announced. But maybe next time have participants enter, and then have a vote of which ones the community likes. Leave it up to the people. Or go by the amount of likes on the entry. I have seen a few entries with likes on them. And only one of the winners actually had a like. Also, how do you determine 1,2,3 at random? Congratulations, you were the first name out of the hat! 500 Diamonds to you!

Some contests are judged, some are random. We like to mix it up. For random selection we use a number generator. I think we lean against contests where the community votes because it can be open to manipulation.

Not every entry was deemed qualified, you did have to "more or less" follow the limerick form.

I have no problem with this. I think the type of Contest should be the determining factor of if it is judged or random. I think something like this (that has to do with actual writing ability, topic, etc.) should have been judged, whereas something like "Tell us your experience" where there is no real way to judge should be more random.

I guess that could be a problem. I forget that not everyone can be unbiased and honest as I can.

I was under the impression that limericks had to be 5 lines and that is it. (I have a feeling others had similar impressions since they too wrote only 5 lines). However one of the winners had 20 lines which would be 4 limericks in one. So I guess there was just a misunderstanding in the guidelines that many of us missed.

The twenty lines were in the form of 4 independent limericks. Only one was required, so we'll just count the first as his entry and the rest as bonus text.

FOE is a game of strategy and it is nice that this strategy was accepted. I appreciate that the opportunity for creativity and effort beyond the minimum were accepted and indeed rewarded.

P.S. Thank You Inno for the 500 diamonds through the Luck o' the Irish. What a wonderful way to start your day.

Thanks for the Diamonds. It was fun though. Ended up making 10 more, just for the heck of it.
