Dear Kings and Queens,
Egg-citing times are ahead! From Wednesday, April 9th, a special visitor will return to your realm, bringing with her a selection of items, including several new and unique ones. Get these items by spending Easter Eggs that you can find in your city or earn through a series of special event quests.
We'll be giving you 25 free eggs when the event begins, to get you started.
Bunnies - doing the bidding of your friends and neighbors - will be dashing around your city hiding eggs behind bushes, trees and other decorations for you to find. You can return the favor by hiding Easter Eggs in their cities, too, to help them gather eggs to trade for items.
The Easter Event 2014 introduces new event buildings and avatars, plus a new Great Building which spans across all the ages. It'll also be possible to upgrade special buildings from previous events to your current age, using the brand new renovation kit available from the Easter trader.
The event runs from April 9th - 23rd, and you can trade Easter Eggs until April 27th.
Getting started
During the event, a new resource will be added to the game... Easter Eggs! There are two ways to gather eggs: you can collect eggs other players have placed in your city, or you can complete the Easter quests to earn eggs as rewards. An egg counter is displayed in the top left corner of the game window. These eggs can be traded for items (click the counter to open the egg trader).
When the event begins, a new quest icon will appear on the left side of your screen, indicating that Greva Darn (in a rather fetching bunny suit) is ready to start issuing you with Easter challenges.
Collecting eggs
When you log into the game, you might see some gold egg icons hovering over your decorations. This is an indicator that there are Easter Eggs hidden behind the decoration, placed there by another player. To collect the egg, click the decoration, and your egg counter will increase:
When you click, a colored egg animation appears over the decoration, showing you what kind of egg you found. Each variety of egg has a different "egg value". So, for example, if you find the pale blue egg, this is worth 5 eggs which will be added to your egg counter:
Hiding eggs in other players' cities
Hiding eggs in other cities requires hiding actions. Just like with Forge Points, you have a hiding actions counter, which increments by 1 each hour, to a limit of 6 hiding actions in the action bar. If you have actions available, you'll be given an option when visiting other cities to hide an egg, along with the usual options to polish or motivate a player's buildings:
To hide an egg, it must be placed in a decoration. Gold eggs will indicate where it's possible to hide an egg for the other player to find! Placing one egg will cost you 1 hiding action.
If you run out of hiding actions, you can either wait for your actions to increase again, or if you're feeling egg-stravagant you can click the "+" icon in the bunny action bar to purchase additional actions with Diamonds.
The Easter trader
You can trade your Easter Eggs with "bunny" Greva Darn, who will remain in your city throughout the event and for several days after the event has ended. On April 27th the trader will leave and you'll lose any remaining eggs, so be sure to spend them before April 27th!
At the trader, you'll find a selection of items available, including a cornucopia containing a selection of game resources, a brand new unit, and new buildings, along with a couple of old favorites from previous events. Also available for the first time is the brand new renovation kit, a single-use item which you can use to upgrade certain special buildings to your current age.
Mystery chests
At the trader you can also find 3 mystery chests - bronze, silver and gold - which contain different prizes, including special buildings. Your chances of finding different items will be shown in the tooltip when you hover over a chest at the Easter trader.
Collection reward
For every item you buy from the trader, you will see a green checkmark appear over the item. Checking off every item at the trader unlocks the special collection reward - the Shrine of Knowledge - which is added to your inventory. After you've won it, the reward - and all items - are reset, so you can try to win it again!
New Items
We're not giving away all the details just yet, but read on for a sneaky peek at some of the items that will be available during the Event. More information will come after the event kicks off, so watch this space!
The Observatory
You'll need to collect blueprints to be able to build the Observatory, which spans across all the ages. Brand new and unique, the Observatory does not belong to any particular age and will be useful for players who are part of a guild...
Blueprints for this Great Building are not easy to find. You can get them at the Easter trader, or by contributing to another player's Observatory. However, you won't be able to find these blueprints when you polish or motivate your friends and neighbors' cities or any other sources, for example quest rewards.
Champion's retreat & champion
The Easter event introduces the Champion's retreat... a military building in which you can train and utilize a brand new unit - the Champion!
Shrine of Knowledge
This special building produces coins, but it also gives up another gift with a bit of help from your friends...
Renovation kit
This item can be used from your inventory to upgrade an age-specific event building to your current age. The renovation kit can be used once.
We "hop" you enjoy the event, and we wish you a very Hoppy Easter!
Sincerely,
The Forge of Empires team
