[Question] Friends Tavern / Tavern Shop Merchant ratio

Can someone explain exactly what the 1:5, 1:4, and 1:3 ratio's mean in the Tavern Shop Merchants?
Trying to see if the cost of tavern silver is worth it.

Instead of the usual 1:10 ratio - ie you trade 10 Gunpowder to get 1 Silk you can make the rades better in your favour.
Ie 3 Gunpowder to get 1 silk.

Still wouldn't bother unless really desperate!
