GE competitors

In GE why do we compete against guilds from other worlds and not just from our own? As a follow up, are our competitors random or is there some method to the madness?

The around-the-world thing is to make it more interesting. As for the actual competitors, they're matched according to membership. Small Guilds against small Guilds, and large Guilds against large Guilds. Guild Level, activity, or Treasury levels do not determine your competition.
