Is there a way to research the different guilds without having to first leave the one you are in?

Yes. Go to ranking button (next to your population, marked by a laurel) and use the filter "Guilds". Find the guild you want to research -- you're done!

Once you find the guild you want to research, click on the guild name, then on "guild profile" in the popup window that appears.

Thanks Lord Muggle and Stephen, I found the window but looks like you can only see the additional info while logged in on PC...will have to look next time I log in on PC.
