To undo noob mistakes, and eventually recycle outdated buildings you placed earlier, in the AD. The only times I have used them was to store my champion retreat after I had enough unattached ones, and store my extra rogue hideouts. ( you only need one)

Another possible use is if you have your city completely full of useful buildings and need to make space to build something to complete an event quest
