2 rifleman can kill a lancer and almost anything else
And all progressive troops can't counter the hide in the forest ability.

AI will not remain in cover if they can get a shot at something by leaving cover. You can also surrender and then attack again, essentially restarting continent battles infinitely until you get terrain that favors your side.

The howitzers get killed by their jagers and cannons before they can kill more than 2. And most maps have an abundance of trees

You're in PE, right? Jaegers do very poorly against snipers. Heck - even if they're adjacent they have hard time doing any damage to them. So take a sniper or two along to use as bait to draw the jaegers out into the open. The snipers can also be used to draw fire from any artillery, thus sparing your howitzers until you can draw the AI jaegers in close enough to use them. Because snipers have a dug-in defense bonus though, it take a bit of time to kill them. Just make sure your bait is the nearest thing to the enemy AI until the distance is closed enough that you can attack with your other units. You will probably lose your sniper(s), but this is something you have to get used to anyway. The storyline map gets harder as it progresses and unit loss in the fights becomes inevitable.
