Dear Explorers!

As you remember, when we first introduced Guild Expeditions, we promised that we will also develop a peaceful way of solving encounters in the jungle.
Until now, the 'Negotiate' option when clicking an encounter has been padlocked. With the upcoming Expedition, starting on Tuesday, instead of battling your way through the unknown territory to eradicate evil invaders, you will also be able to trade with locals using your resources.

We proudly present - the Negotiation Game!
If you succeed and complete negotiations, they will let you through and you will solve your encounter with no fight whatsoever! This will not be the simple pay&go solution that you know from the single player campaign map. Instead, we will entertain you with a negotiation game where you will need both, luck and the power of your mind!

How does it work?
When you hit the Negotiate button for the first time, you will see that you got approached by five locals. They clearly want something from you, and if you don't deliver, they won't let you pass. Unfortunately, their dialect is very complicated and despite your best efforts you fail to communicate.
You diffidently offer them some coins, but only two out of five take them and walk away happily. The other tree take them as well, but... they refuse to move and firmly stand their ground. Perhaps some supplies?
Success!
They took the supplies and then showed you a secret passage that will let you go around the invaders! You just managed to solve your first encounter through negotiation!

In this new Negotiation Game, you have to figure out what the local inhabitants want from you and offer it to them. Count on both luck and skill!

Please watch the video prepared by our game designers to learn more about the Negotiation Game:

And if you prefer reading, we of course have an explanation ready for you as well :).

This is how the negotiation game window looks like when you open it:

Each of the five persons wants a resource from you. When you click one of the "Select Resource" buttons, you will see what you can offer to them:

The first encounters will be very easy to solve. You can only choose one of two resources. The select buttons show how many coins/supplies you need to offer and how many you have.
You can select your offer for each inhabitant separately.
Let's offer 3 of them coins and supplies to the other two:

And let's see what happens when you hit the "Negotiate" button (at this point one attempt will be withdrawn from your attempts pool):

Great! Two inhabitants accepted your offer and are willing to let you pass! But still three of them clearly want something else. As you can see, there is "Wrong Person" information shown on the banners that represent them. This means, that while they are not interested in what you offered them, at least one of their companions will accept it.
Since this is the first encounter, it is very easy to solve. You only choose from 2 possibilities, so if your first offer was rejected, simply pick the other resource now:

Then hit "Negotiate" again! Notice that this time an attempt will not be taken away, since this is still the same negotiation round. Within each negotiation round you have three turns to use.
Let's see what happens:

It looks like we succeeded! The encounter has been solved!

Just like battles, negotiations will be more and more demanding as you progress through the map. Larger encounters are also more difficult than the regular ones. You will have more resources to pick from:

- typical negotiation from the middle of difficulty I.

- typical negotiation from the middle of difficulty II.

- typical negotiation from the middle of difficulty III.

When you make your offers, there are three possible feedback options from the locals:
Either they accept your offer, or reject it hinting that one of the other people needs what you offered them, or they reject it completely and this means that nobody of the remaining people wants it.
This is represented by text and color:

What exactly do they mean?

ge_minigame_slot_green.png
Green
Correct

Offer has been accepted. The same resource might, but doesn't necessarily have to, be still expected by one or more of the other persons.

ge_minigame_slot_yellow.png
Yellow
Wrong Person

This person does not need this resource. However, one or more of the remaining characters will accept it.

ge_minigame_slot_red.png
Red
Incorrect

No one needs this resource: none of the remaining inhabitants wants this resource. This means that it will be also greyed out when you begin the next turn.

Outcome of each turn is saved each time you make an offer so you can review it when searching for the right combination.

Keep in mind that the resources are taken upon offering them to the inhabitants and not when they accept your offer. So they take them away even if they don't want them!

The Negotiation Game is balanced in the way that you get roughly the same amount of Expedition Points for fighting and for negotiating, but this can of course differ slightly depending on how many turns you need to figure out the right combination.
Speaking of turns: in some cases, if you lack skill or luck, 3 turns might not be enough to find the right combination. In this case you have two options: either you give up and try again (in this case you will need another attempt) or you buy an additional turn with Diamonds (it is still the same attempt).
If you decide to give up and try again, the set of resources the locals want will remain the same, but who wants what will be randomly changed.

FAQ
This is a list of frequently asked questions along with answers that we think you may want to read through:
  • I do not recognize the images of the resources, what are they?
The ones you may find confusing are the images of the goods, as they have been enlarged here for better visibility. If you look closely the images match their smaller versions from your goods stock. The goods you'll be asked for will depend on your era, but in general you will need goods from your current era and the previous era.
  • Are the goods taken from the guild treasury or my own stock?
All resources are taken from your own personal goods stock.
  • Do I receive ranking points for spending these goods?
Yes, just like spending goods on the tech tree or in GvG, you will receive ranking points for any goods you spend here to do the negotiation game.
  • I have given up on my first attempt, but the 'correct' goods are not the same in the second attempt?
The resources which remain the same in every attempt are the initial set from which you can choose (for example: Coins, Supplies, Stone, Dye, Wine, Marble). Which resources are correct or incorrect, and which local wants them, will change. Example - maybe Coins, Coins, Wine, Supplies, Supplies were 'correct' in the first attempt, but in the second attempt the 'correct' resources could be Stone, Stone, Marble, Marble, Dye.
  • Why am I being asked to spend diamonds when I still have turns left?
The only case in which this happens is when you're lacking the resources to continue with the negotiation game. For example if you've selected to offer 2 Dye, but you do not own any Dye in your goods stock, to continue you would need to obtain those goods. You can of course give up the attempt and return when you've collected enough goods.

And that's it!
We hope that you enjoy the new Negotiation Game! Please feel invited to tell us what you think about it in the feedback thread!
Keep in mind that balancing is, as always, subject to change in between Expeditions.

Thank you for playing Guild Expeditions!

Yours,
Forge of Empires Team
