Dear Queens and Kings,
Quests are one of the central parts of Forge of Empires. They lead players through the game and often determine their progress. The current system that we were using for the past five years has been great and worked well, but it had several restrictions that were always very limiting when it comes to what we could do with quests.
We sat down and thought about possible improvements to the way we show them and present them to you.
We came up with a new Quest Overview which should be able to display all of the needed information in an efficient way and provide the possibility for future expansion. After lots of testing and improvements (many thanks to our Beta community!) we will enable the feature for everybody on September 11, 2017.
This is what the new quest overview looks like, after it has been extended from the side of your screen:
As you can see, the left part of the screen is now less crowded with quests, because different kinds of quests are grouped in tabs.
Secondly, we also added a possibility to permanently get rid of the quest abort confirmation for recurring quests ("Don't show again"). This was a frequently requested addition on Beta:
Thirdly, we've also now used the chance to integrate a much more visible timer for when a questline or event will end. We've observed that players were often surprised when questlines (especially historical ones) just disappeared one day, because they hadn't been aware of the runtime. This is particularly helpful in the mobile version, where there isn't a timer counting down in the main event button.
Also, there is no need to switch between different windows to see your overall event questline progress any more. It is now neatly displayed as a bar below the current quest .
We think that the new overview can improve your experience, while also making our quests system more extendable for future improvements.

Thank you for wanting to know more! Let's get right to it.
There were actually quite a few things we were aiming to achieve with the new Quests Overview:
Provide a better overview of quests and quest types
We wanted to introduce a chance for better distinction between quests and quest types. There are currently two main types of quests: standard quests (under "Story"), and event quests, and you can have a few different quests active within each of those categories at a time.
An example issue that we observed was that you would need to click open and close a few quests to find the quest that you were actually trying to make progress on.
We're also planning on introducing a third category of "quest", which makes it even more important to have the distinction and better overview.
Allow for more quests
There's a limited amount of space on the left side of the screen, and depending on your resolution, having 5 quests open at a time was already hiding certain other parts of the UI. The change to the tab-based view will allow for having more quests in progress at the same time.
Allow more quest conditions
We also wanted to have a UI that accommodates more than 2 quest conditions at a time. We plan to make use of this new functionality in an upcoming feature.
Better visualization for event quests
There are also significant changes to how we show event quests. Firstly, there was the mild confusion that there were 2 event quests that looked the same, even though one of them was for counting progress in the actual questline. We've introduced a better overview for that with a progress bar that is visible when you view the main quest for the event.
Changes based on comments from Beta
The Beta community provided a tremendous amount of valuable comments and feedback. In addition to bugfixes, there were also lots of changes. Let's list the most meaningful ones (we won't list all changes, it's too many ):
- A "don't show again"-checkbox was introduced for the recurring quest aborting confirmation.
- We sped up how long it takes for new quests to pop in.
- The Quest Overview was made accessible directly from the Guild Expeditions screen.
- Pictures of building rewards were tiny. We made them larger and prettier.
- Lots of polishing of the visual side: assets, colors and fonts.
- "Swipe to abort" on mobile.
...and many more .
