Researching Tech w/o unlocking.

I am doing RQs at the end of LMA. My tech is fully researched and I have only one Colonial sector of the continent map to conquer. I know I can continue into the Indy map without ageing up to the Colonial Era. My question is can I research the CA tech without unlocking and still stay in the LMA and how far could I get?

You can add the FPs, but the moment you click unlock, you'll be in CA. Not unlocking gets you nowhere as it will not complete the quests asking you to research. So no, you can't research CA tech while remaining in LMA.
