Victory Points

We have a raging battle within our guild concerning victory points.
It began at the end of this battleground, when I suggested that at this late stage, it would be better to go after territory for victory points not to go after safe
, low value territory that no one was fighting for. A guildmate says that victory points are only gained from the number of provinces you have so at the late stage of battleground, it would be better to conquer that outlying province that no one claimed yet. This guild mate says that there are no victory points in battles or negotiations but the victory points per hour are from the provinces we already have.
Thoughts?

Yup, DC's answer is correct. The Guild gains VPs at hourly intervals equal to the total amount of VPs that each currently conqured Province gives. Actually, correction, VPs only come from Provinces, and, of course, any Province Buildings on them, such as the Statue.

Thank you. But the attached screenshot from Wiki is what fueled my end of the argumen, ie, both fighting AND maintaining a province adds points. Wiki says"...Two options for earning points will be available there: fighting and negotiation" Where do the points achieved by fighting and negotiation go if not as victory points per hour?

Cap a province 1 minute before vp is calculated and you get credit as if you held the province for the entire hour

As has been stated, there are no Victory Points given for fighting or negotiating. Victory Points only come from owning provinces at the top of the hour when the points are awarded. Fighting and negotiating is how you win provinces, owning provinces is how you get Victory Points.

each completed negotiation gives 2 ticks to completing the province, each completed battle gives 1 tick to completing the province.
Has nothing to do with victory points.
