I agree! after the third or fourth time It asked for happeness I quit trying for the five stars, Am in space age mars and the the reward of five stars was just not worth what the quest cost .
Store your Olympic Treasury right after you collect it, then rebuild it. That works in most eras, if not in SAM, look for one that has enough happiness, or do 2. Easy peasy.

Yea that's to be expected though... On Halloween we get tricks with no treats and Christmas we get sacks of coal and reindeer raised by the grinch and grab bags instead of gifts that usually shuffle up before u get anything decent.
All those crappy faces of the ancient and the other one in GE. I save them all and use them in the ubiquitous blacksmith spots for happiness quests. Delete the blacksmiths drop in the faces , delete and repeat until you have enough and then put the blacksmiths back down.

^This. Also I have some space left open just for "build x" quests; I lay down rows of single-lane roads to top off the happiness quests. Delete and repeat.

I don't look at it as "Five stars isn't worth that," I take the long view: I want to complete all the quests to get the last grand prize upgrade, so I do all the quests no matter what. I will say the happiness quests are the biggest pain.

My best advice for newbies would be to skip the first event after they start, especially if it's a big one like this. No way can you play an event properly while getting a city up to speed.

I disagree, using a heavy questing strategy with only a couple barracks, I was able to complete about 16 quest a day with 20 butchers and about 16 cotts for coin quest that provided all my goods at no cost. Every coin and supply I created, I banked. Only coin and supply I used was for the event or build a few troops. I was only in IA a few weeks and aged up during the Halloween event on Carthage with about 300k coins in reserve to fund my 24 tanneries. I had no problems acquiring a full Clown Circus and a full Abandoned Asylum, without guild hopping.

Yeah, like an actual newbie would know those strategies.
An actual newbie (one who is starting their first city) wouldn't even understand your post, let alone be able to do it. My advice is for someone just starting the game for the first time. Or don't you remember when you weren't yet an expert on the game?

I have figured out the Calendars, and I am a little angry at what I found.
I have two cities: a big Colonial Age with diamond and other expansions, and a little Iron Age city. I have collected 100 more stars for the little city and have a real possibility for Calendar completion. This is due to incidents. I cannot see incidents under my city on my Windows laptop, and only hit a few by accident. The big city takes up about half the available space.
The Big City Calendar (big = expansions, not Age nor score) is utterly pay to win, which is why there are so many comments to that effect. But new cities should go for calendars--you have a real chance.
This also affects your odds of winning other prizes.
I do not consider this fair, though I concede the point can be argued.

I hate incidents anyway, because mostly the prize is absurdly small unless its forge points, and once I found 5 diamonds. The very first incidents were cherry trees on your lawn from the very first Cherry Blossom festival. The gorgeous trees provided cherry blossoms event currency, and you ended up with a truly beautiful cherry blossom set. I loved it.

Some of the incidents are on the water, and I always find those. I personally think incidents should happen only during events, should be off the building areas entirely, and should relate to the event theme.

@LoveNkind, I have one comment and a suggestion. My suggestion is to use the app and drag a building around your big city to collect incidents. The comment is I have 4 IA small towns and a main city (FE with all medal and diamond expansions). I'm not counting incidents but would guess that I've found 50ish on each so far and none is spawning more than another.

IMO, the calendar is like the reindeer sleigh....it's for diamond spenders.

What mechanics would you prefer for activating the snow?

I like the snow activated when completing a quest/opening a present, but I'd prefer it stay on the ground throughout this event instead of disappearing and going back to spring after a few seconds. Basically I like the snow, but my city spends ~99% of the time green like the rest of the year. How much effort was spent getting an effect that we don't really get to see much? From the first time the snow triggers, I'd appreciate seeing the city snow covered for the whole event.

As for mechanics: same as last year. Spend stars when a daily you like comes up, don't expect to get a lot of dailies (anything that is useful with quantity 1...so sleigh builders are good if you don't have a lot). Ignore the calendar until the end then find *someplace* that says what the calendar rewards are and open the most useful days with whatever fragments you managed (keys are day specific so use whenever).

This isn't a good event, but during a time of year that I've often got a lot of things going on, an event I don't really care about is kinda nice.

The event seems even worse than last year, even with the event boxes. Down 7-8 keys so far, even with being able to make 6 or 7 gift selections a day during the first 38 quests. Seems to me a no brainer that you're going to have to use diamonds to just play catch up. Looks like more coal than presents in the stocking, such a shame that the events set up and play make it not worth trying.

My guild told me about dragging a building around. I have tried it maybe 20 times and never found an incident. You mentioned an app. Maybe this works for phone players. I use a laptop.
My big city is behind the small one in the match light prizes, so I know it got fewer stars. Both cities are in once per day quests, so the difference must be from stars found in incidents. There is a tiny random element of stars in presents, but not enough to account for the difference.

Most of all all games do “sleight game fixes” even in Christmas events as offerings also but inno is different it pleases us with treats, 2 shuffles in a row, amazing inno, tyvm.

Best of the worst events so far, keep it for next year then I will have 30days slack of the game.

I'm running this event in four cities, ranging from IA to LMA, one fairly new and one with a lvl 62 Arc. I should get the lvl 10 building in each city without spending any diamonds, so that's good. It takes daily play to get it done, but that's the point of these events, right?

As for the calendar, my daily quests have all been used for key fragments, and still none of my cities are on track to complete the calendar. The 140 star load this morning helps (because you likely have enough to get at least a half-dozen keys), but the hit rate in keys just isn't high enough for the calendar to work. It's not a puzzle or game to solve, it's a tease intended to force diamond spend.

I REALLY do not like the reindeer sleigh. 3,000 diamonds spent or it's worthless? Seriously? For my 4 cities, that's 12,000 diamonds. Non-starter. I have a whole bunch of great stuff in those sleighs that's going to expire. Not cool.

The calendar is not a reasonable part of the game and don't look at it like that unless you intend to outright buy keys. The shuffle can hit unlimited times so even if you spend 1000$ on diamonds you will still not be guaranteed a key. This breaks the primary rule of capitalism and Inno should have known better even casinos know to guarantee a certain return of money spent. Go for the daily specials of your choice and ignore it.

My canal is currently lv 8. I will get one selection kit at the end of the quest line, and need to light 20 more houses for another selection kit. Currently I have about 150 stars, most of them are from the quest 55 milestone, with about 15 days left in the event and more stars to be won. I will easily got the canal maxed. I did have the surprise box from the previous event, and no diamond spent. I have won 6 sentinels, and are waiting for it to show up again. Overall, this event is on par with previous year. You can get the grand prize for free, plus some decent daily specials. Nothing out of the ordinary. I am not concerned about not winning the calendar or the reindeer sleigh. Those are premium features for diamond spenders, and I don’t expect to get them for free.

Perhaps one of the things that makes me want to stop playing FoE is the absolutely moronic reindeer & sleigh element within the Winter Event. Let's face it, after a player has accomplished obtaining all nine reindeer, they then have to spend about 3,000 diamonds. Let's state this clearly again... 3,000 DIAMONDS!!!

Unless a player has the 3,000 diamonds to waste, the reindeer element is a complete waste of time and effort, and really wish it could be turned off within game options. The fact that it remains only reminds me that perhaps Inno really doesn't care about players in this game until and unless they drop the roughly $60 to obtain those diamonds, if they don't already have them. In other words, unless you're prepared to lay out some cash, this game element isn't for you, or most of the players in this game, worldwide.

So, Inno, unless you like to upset players in this game, you really ought to provide some other method for players to be able to obtain all those items for each of the reindeer, through whatever means possible outside of laying out $60 or wasting the 3.000 diamonds that are so vital during game play.

As advertised. Inno's been upfront about it being an offer that is unlocked, not a prize that is won. So I don't understand being that upset about it. I can get the grand prize for free, which used to be the only thing available in an Event. So they've added extra things for diamond buyers, good for them.
