Yes, there was 9 years ago . In your inventory tab, you had a gifting button button which allowed you to gift to a GUILD Member, It never quite worked right and FOE removed it several months later citing that there was too many immediate issues that need to be fixed on what was then " a NEW game" before they would revisit fixing the gifting function
This thread, from the way back machine of 2013, shows that while there was a gifting tab in inventory, it was only ever used for Inno to give gifts to players. While many hoped that it would be a way to gift items to guild members, that never materialized. From everything I've been able to read, that ability was never hinted at or promised by Inno. Any suggestions that the gift tab or gift button could be used, or would eventually be used to gift items between users, was just hopes from players, reading into what the word Gift on the button and tab meant.
Here's a link to a Q&A from October 2016 with the developers saying that the 'gift' button that once showed in inventory under each item, would not be implemented and would soon be removed from the game. From all indications, this button never did anything, I also don't see anything from Inno that indicates what they had hoped or planned for it to do, any suggestions for gifting items between users, just hopes from users.
While I'm happy to be proven wrong, you'll need to prove me wrong, and that will require documentation from Inno, not just faulty memories of long time users, who 'heard it from a friend, who heard it from a friend, who heard it from another' you could gift to someone else.
