When you open the build menu, a toolbar will appear at the top of your screen. Select the tool with a green arrow and a dollar sign, then select the building you want to sell. Make sure you sell something that's low value and easily replaceable.

Roads are considered buildings. sell that

I think even decorations are considered buildings for this purpose, so you could sell a Tree or an Obelisk.
At least, that's worked for me in the past. Though it can also depend on the exact wording of the quest. The wording is occasionally sneaky.
